So, the consumption of plastic is increasing every year. The decomposition of plastic takes more than thousand years because of its non-biodegradable nature. The plastic harms the society and surrounding environment in all aspects. So, the best way to control the pollution posed by the plastic is recycling. The exponential growth in construction industry, the demand for natural aggregates increases but leads to depletion of natural resources. To overcome this issue plastic used as a fine aggregate replacement in concrete. The majority of the waste coming from the plastic bottles (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and food containers (Polypropylene). So, the recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate and Polypropylene used as a fine aggregate in concrete with percentages of 5%,10%,15%. This paper objective is to assess the effect of Polyethylene Terephthalate and Polypropylene on compressive strength and workability. The workability and c...

Due to the scarcity of natural aggregates for making concrete, it is required to go for alternative material, this type of plastic is one of the materials for replacement of fine aggregate in concrete. An objective of this paper is to study the feasibility of this recycled PET and PP plastic waste to be used as a building material in manufacturing of concrete which is replaced in fine aggregate. Polyethylene Terephthalate and Polypropylene is used in various percentages like 5%, 10%, 15% and also various tests like workability and compressive strength, Sorptivity, water absorption, acid attack and sulphate attack tests are conducted. From the results the PP shows good workability but low compressive strength than PET. From the durability point of view, the concrete made with PET and PP have given ...

Medium rise R.C framed are provided with shear walls for the lateral load resistance. Frequently the shear walls are provided with openings thus it is necessary to study the effect of those on the storey drift, storey stiffness, and shear and moments and on the stress within the shear walls. A 3-D analysis is carried out for analysis of the shear wall in the building. This study covers the effects of size and locations of these openings. Detailed results have been obtained and useful conclusions are drawn on the basis of this study which will be of use to the practical engineers.

There are many studies that contribute to better performance of buildings. Herein, to understand the seismic effects on a building when one of the design parameters is varying while others remaining constant, this study is conducted. The lateral forces at different levels of a structure in seismic zone V in all of the soil types are studied. The seismic loading with a varying soil conditions in the seismic zone is applied on all the structures. Both regularly and irregularly planned buildings are incorporated which are of varying heights (G + 3, G + 6, G + 9, and G + 12). The structure’s response in terms of lateral forces at all storey levels is analyzed varying the parameters. While the pattern observed is similar in regular and irregular cases, the soft soil type had higher storey shear when the storey levels increased.

The study is on the base shear and its variation on a structure. This design related study incorporates all the seismic zones and the three soil types in it. The seismic loadings for the zones and varying the soil conditions are applied on G + 3, G + 6, G + 9, G + 12 storey buildings, considering both regular as well as an irregular structure (plan wise). The analysis of the building performance is studied for the base shear in all afore mentioned scenarios and obtained results talk of importance in variance of these parameters in a structure’s response to lateral loading. The observed pattern in regular as well as irregular is similar and the variation in base shear is significant in taller structures with six storey levels or more.

Translucent concrete block is prepared by inserting the optical fibers from one side to other. The casted translucent concrete cubes are tested for mechanical properties and compare the results with mechanical properties. The cost analysis is carried out for both the concretes. Results show the improved tensile strength and similar compressive strength of translucent concrete than conventional concrete.

The strength of the concrete produced is dependent on the properties of aggregates used. There is huge demand for this material. Hence need for an alternative coarse aggregate arises. The scope of project was to investigate the possibility of using sponge iron scrap material as an alternative material to coarse aggregate in structural concrete. Experimental investigation was carried out on compressive strength and durability related tests such as acid resistance test and Permeability. Tests were conducted by replacing the coarse aggregates in concrete mixes by sponge iron scrap material. From the experimental investigation it was found that sponge iron scrap material can be used as an alternative for coarse aggregate in concrete. However further investigations have to be made to study long term effects.
