🌍 PLANETech World 2024 Takeaways #3: "Novel Materials x Climate: Making Things Better" We're excited to share another post in our series highlighting key takeaways from the insightful discussions at the PLANETech World 2024 conference. We believe it's essential to extend these insights beyond those who were lucky enough to be in the room 😊. Innovations such as low-carbon concrete, recycled materials, and advancements in circular economies and energy efficiency are prime examples of how sustainable solutions are mitigating climate impact and paving the way for a future where our built environment supports long-term environmental health. Our esteemed speakers— Dr. Ricardo Osiroff, Adital Ela, and Jack Levy —discussed on a panel moderated by Maayan Gossat Schwartz what startups are working on, how corporations are implementing and piloting these novel innovations, and the financing models supporting and driving these technological advancements. 🏭 Some of the most polluting building materials include concrete, which emits carbon dioxide during production, contributing to about 8% of global emissions. Steel production also generates large amounts of CO2 due to its reliance on coal. Plastics used in construction, such as PVC, release harmful chemicals and contribute to environmental pollution—the list goes on. ♻ Sustainable and novel materials are vital because of their reduced environmental impact compared to traditional materials. They conserve resources, promote a circular economy, and offer improved performance and innovation opportunities while aligning with regulatory and consumer preferences for eco-friendly products. This contributes to a more sustainable future. You can find the link to the full discussion in the comments below. Thank you to our panelists for their valuable insights and to our engaged audience! June is wrapping up, and it was really packed with highlights!! I’d like to share this one: A fascinating week in Hong Kong and Singapore as part of the Israeli Construction Tech Delegation, right after a visit to Tokyo the previous week with Undivided Ventures. I was really excited to learn firsthand about the shift to reduction of the carbon footprint in building materials. I presented Criaterra Innovations’ BioGeo Stone tiles and our technology to manufacture non-fired zero waste products for buildings in different forums and had the opportunity to engage with remarkable industry professionals in the industry. To the many, many inspiring people that I meet – I look forward to continuing these conversations! A very warm thank you for organizing this visit to Einav Nixon and Jack Lee at the Israel Economic and Commercial Mission in Hong Kong and Macau, , and to Noa Partuk , Sean Low and Jonaphine G. at the Israel Economic and Trade Mission in Singapore together with the team at the Israel Export Institute מכון היצוא . So very wonderful always to work with the Undivided Ventures Team: Ariel Shtarkman, Alexander Bent, Tim Forman, Amie Shuttleworth, Mariya Kuze, and to Rumah Group & Foundation's Thomas Knudsen and Kathlyn Tan. And to my Contech cohort – ATOM’s Tom Cohen, GreenVibe Technologies LTD’s Roee Reshef and qbiq ‘s Itai Barak – sharing the experience with all of you incredibly dedicated and talented entrepreneurs - made it even more special and fun!- + 4

The challenge of decarbonization of traditional building materials is also an unparalleled opportunity! Building materials are responsible for more than 50% of total life-cycle carbon emissions in the building value chain. Reducing carbon through redesign of materials is an opportunity for transitioning to products that can be manufactured without fossil fuels and can be recirculated in multiple cycles. Contact Criaterra Innovations and learn about Criaterra's BioGeo Stone tiles and our technology to manufacture non-fired zero waste products for buildings. 🏬Affordable and sustainable construction: solutions for urbanization in emerging markets❗️ Currently about 4.4 billion people are living in cities. This number is expected to increase to 6.4 billion by 2050 while 96% of that growth will take place in developing and emerging economies. This rapid urbanization requires targeted solutions for the sector to conduct sustainable and affordable construction projects. About 5% of global CO2 emissions are caused by cement production. However, there are already environmentally friendly and economically viable solutions in place in order to make a change. Innovative companies are revolutionizing the way we build, using upcycled materials, rethinking the production process and implementing circularity concepts. At this year’s Future Cleantech Festival, UNIDO ITPO Germany organized a panel discussion on sustainable and affordable construction featured by innovative companies offering solutions for the sector. Stefan Wittek (B.T. innovation GmbH), Isabel Faller (Polycare), Adital Ela (Criaterra Innovations),Michael Tekabe (Kubik, Inc.), discussed how new construction methods can not only lower greenhouse emissions but also help developing countries to create new jobs and new value chains while also creating modern housing in their growing cities. The panel was moderated by ITPO Germany deputy head Vanessa Völkel and Expert Andreas Schäfer. One of the key takeaways of the discussion is that norms and regulations that focus on material input rather than outcome are often holding back innovative solutions. Regulations should be in line with the latest developments in the sector.Future Cleantech Architects, Peter Schniering, Leonie Brand, Francesca Brunner, Marie Goß, Martin Schifferings, João Saint-Aubyn, Gihan Bayoumi, UN Climate Change, Antoine Koen, Magnolia Tovar, Maia Kvaliashvili, Bhava Dhungana, Christian Sander, Nico Köllner, Martin Hoyer, Marlène Siméon, Gaone Koma, PhD, Boyoung(부영) Kang, Andreas Kunsmann, Kira Taylor, Birgit Frese
