Aspiration plays an important role in the pronunciation of Bangla words. It not only brings varie... more Aspiration plays an important role in the pronunciation of Bangla words. It not only brings variety in pronunciation, but also distinguishes meanings in words. Some pairs of similar-sounding words are differently recognized in Bangla only because of the aspiration trait. Hence it is claimed that aspiration is a distinctive feature in Bangla. In this paper the distinctiveness of Bangla has been tested with minimal pairs, in order to establish the distinct linguistic fact in question. Examples have been drawn widely from contemporary Bangla language in sufficient number with utmost care and contemplation. Phonemic and phonetic transcriptions, as necessary, have been provided beside the words along with meanings for a better grasp of the contrast in minimal pairs. The relevant aspects of phonetics and phonology of Bangla have also been compared with those of English to bring into focus the aspirational characteristics. They often use virtual platforms like Moodle and Google Classroom to supportand supplement their physical classroom teaching, which transcends the routine constraints of traditional educational system. In their capacity, teachers and students may engage in necessary interactions “anytime anywhere”, adding extra momentum to the teaching-learning process. English language teaching (ELT) may be specially facilitated by such features as constant connectivity, anytime feed-backing, assignment creation, submission and grading, file sharing, virtual interaction and collaboration, etc. Here is an attempt to delineate some important features of Moodle and Google Classroom, two useful technological tools, in the light of the author’s experience as a teacher.

Information technology (IT) has flourished at a breakneck speed and people have moved towards automation from manual deed. It has exerted deep impact on educational system all over the world. Computer, internet and other technologies are now being used by teachers and learners in ever increasing rate and volume. Institutions are exploring ways to utilize IT effectively for the purpose of education. This paper considers various aspects of the influence of information technology on education, with special attention to language teaching (LT). It considers various features of IT which are found useful in education as well as how those features are best used by educationists and language teachers. The Bangladesh scenario vis-a-vis the use of IT in education has also been taken into account.

This article makes a contrastive analysis of the phonemic systems of English and Bangla. The aspects of similarities as well as dissimilarities between the two have been explored in detail. It brings into focus the inventory of phonemes of the two languages along with relevant phonetic and phonological characteristics. The vowel and consonant phonemes of the two languages have been compared with sufficient examples, making it clear where and how they are identical and different.

Theories state that awareness about the mind of the receiver and awareness about oneself and his ... more Theories state that awareness about the mind of the receiver and awareness about oneself and his mind becomes essential along with the acquaintance in the medium of communication. While teaching a language, supplementation of activities that help the thinking process and trigger the possibility of thinking conventionally and unconventionally, are felt to be useful for speech development. This paper describes a possible approach carried out by the researcher to intensify the thinking process along with a communicative task. It is found that the students' involvement and productivity are more with the use of metacognitive strategy. Students felt that this approach enabled them to come out with their thoughts without much inhibition. This study suggests that while teaching a language, it is necessary to look into the application of it in specific and also in varied contexts.
