Dartitis | 5 Tips To Defeat Dartitis (original) (raw)

The term Dartitis is often taken by many people grinning. When explaining that this is actually a disease, the smile often turns into implausible head shaking. But what exactly is dartitis and what is behind it?

We talked to people with the disease. You yourself describe dartitis as a condition in which the player is no longer able to release the arrow at the desired moment.

Mostly there is a psychological problem, also called “head problem”, behind the illness.

What is dartitis?

Many statements suggest that dartitis is progressing as a creeping process. In the beginning, most players had no problems playing darts and finding their rhythm in the throw.

This is because there is no pressure situation in which the player gets the feeling that he has to hit a certain field now necessarily.

Only in exceptional pressure situations do many players experience the first signs of dart disease.

You have the feeling that you can no longer control your own hands and that you cannot release the arrow at the usual moment.

game changer darts

Anyone who has already lived through these moments has come into contact with dartitis.

The problem and the danger of this disease, however, lie mainly in the fact that the self-confidence is lost by a few of these dropouts and the problem now occurs more frequently.

Not infrequently, this leads so far that the arrow no longer lands in the board, but only in the surround.

This dysfunction is very difficult for the player to process since such a problem has not occurred before.

As a result, the head problem starts now. The player thinks too much about his throwing style and subconsciously changes things in order to be successful again – only in the rarest cases with a positive result.

What are the causes of the disease?

The main cause is usually the risk of failure. The fear of losing in the situation in the one against one in front of the dartboard surpasses everything else, even the enjoyment of possible success.

Dartitis can basically hit any player. The art is to trust in one’s own abilities even after a difficult phase.

As soon as too much change is sought, the dartitis spreads even more clearly.

Especially dangerous is the moment in which the player keeps thinking, I was much better.

Why does not this work anymore? Hiding this idea is incredibly difficult when the quality of the game actually drops noticeably – despite a higher training load.

The player, in turn, is looking for playful and technical solutions and, above all, forgets one thing: the mental solution.

He should first free himself completely from his inner constraints. In other words, fiddling with the arrows and his throwing technique will not solve the dartitis.

The fight against causes must therefore already begin in the head.

How can dartitis be healed?

Dartitis is ultimately not a fine motor disorder of the fingers and hands, but rather a head problem that affects the hands.

Dartitis can be cured by regular mental training. In the first step, it is important to reduce your athletic ambitions so as not to focus too much on winning.

Rather, it’s about judging your own achievements – regardless of whether this was completed with play with a win or defeat.

Furthermore, it makes sense not only to target the 20 but simply to throw a target, no matter which segment. In the head, you should solve that the 20 is the highest segment. It’s a field like any other on the board.

Unfortunately, very few players are looking for help with this problem.

Rather, the actors bury themselves in their own cause research, which will not lead to success before dealing more closely with the topic.

Hypnosis has also been used as a successful treatment.

The hypnosis should make the player free from thoughts and prejudices in his Dart matches.

At the end of the day, it is only a matter of throwing a disc – only when this certain “looseness” is back, the dartitis can be combated.

Even professional players are not spared

That well-known professional player is not spared by the dartitis show two prominent examples.

Mensur Suljovic, currently one of the best players in the world, has been struggling with dartitis for a long time. His career was even close to the end.

Fortunately, to solve the spasm in his arms again, Suljovic happily traded in time. He first worked on his throwing technique.

The Austrian has perfected the litter so much so that letting go of the arrows and the entire preparation of the litters are the same as a ritual.

Always the same movements and processes. Through this pattern, Suljovic no longer worries about what is right or wrong.

He goes through his entire routine completely routinely again and again.

So, at some point, he had reached the point at which this habitual pattern no longer required thinking.

The pressure also decreased from time to time and Mensur Suljovic became the player we know today as the absolute top player of the PDC.

A very tragic story: Berry van Peer suffered on stage

Berry van Peer

Mensur Suljovic is not the only example of a dart pro who has dartitis. Berry van Peer also suffers from the dart disease.

How fast the dartitis can occur, shows the current example of van Peers. All viewers of the 2017 Grand Slam of Darts will remember.

In the first group match against Simon Whitlock, van Peer took an unusually long time to complete his throws.

Whitlock grew restless with increasing duration and was visibly angry, as he himself did not get into his usual rhythm.

Only after the game did Whitlock learn about the problems surrounding Berry van Peer.

However, the special and the tragic at the same time took place a few days later. Berry van Peer met Gary Anderson in his second match in his group.

In this game finally broke all dams at van Peer. For several minutes, Berry van Peer struggled with watery eyes against the disease.

The pressure and attention of his person were finally too much for the young actor.

Everyone in the hall, but also the spectators on the TV, could feel the tragedy and suffering of the Dutchman.

It was definitely one of the most emotional moments of recent darts history. Anyone who has ever had the disease will pay the utmost respect to van Peer for having performed a second time on the scene.

Fixing Dartitis

Now, of course, the question arises … how do I get rid of dartitis?

Since dartitis is just as individual as the person it affects, I can only give a few suggestions.

#1: Acceptance

acceptance

Of course, as a victim, you don’t have to be best friends with your dartitis, but you should accept to be affected.

Because until you accept what is, all attention is drawn to dartitis. However, if you want to change something, it is necessary to draw attention to what you want to achieve and not what you want to avoid!

As in this hamster wheel, in my opinion, dartitis presents itself for many sufferers.

I am firmly convinced that it is very difficult to permanently banish dartitis without a change in thinking, attitudes towards the game and maybe even towards yourself.

There have been players with me who were free and still are dartitis after 2-3 hypnosis sessions.

Which, admittedly, is rather the exception, since dartitis is a blockage in the subconscious that needs to be investigated.

When an affected player deals with himself, reflects and analyzes, I think most dartitis players will also recognize the cause and thus also know what needs to be changed.

#2: Visualization

In mental training, visualization is an indispensable tool to achieve your goals.

Visualization simply means explaining a situation, a goal or a sequence of movements with all your senses.

This requires a lot of practice and above all discipline since it should be repeated regularly.

It could look like this for a dartitis player. In a relaxed state, preferably before falling asleep, he should adjust the movement of his throw as intensely as possible when everything was still ok.

Since the subconscious does not differentiate between real experience or very good visualization.

If the visualization is repeated regularly, it will assume that it has been experienced as true, which makes it easier to be able to recall the fluid throw from before the dartitis.

#3: Think

Professor Dr. Eric Kandel is considered one of the most important brain researchers.

His discovery that every thought is networked in the brain at the moment it is thought, stored through the formation of synapses and neuronal connections are created exactly the second in which these thoughts are thought, brought the Nobel Prize to the good professor in 2000 for medicine.

And that doesn’t just apply to good thoughts …….. our negative thinking is also saved.

So, if you want to achieve positive goals, such as getting rid of dartitis, you should think positively about what you want to achieve and never what you want to avoid.

Align your thinking positively with everything you want to achieve!

#4: Meditation

meditation

Meditation is mostly considered to be very difficult to learn. Of course, there are Buddhist monks who do meditation incredibly well, but it is not necessary to practice for years to be able to meditate.

Meditation increases the ability to concentrate and control one’s own thinking, which can be extremely helpful for a dart player or dartitis sufferer.

#5: Better Dealing with Yourself

In general, you should pay attention to how you deal with yourself.

-Forgive yourself for mistakes!

-Don’t mangle yourself!

-First of all, you create pressure yourself!

-The pursuit of absolute perfection takes away the fun of the game in the long run! There is no perfection because something would still be a little bit better!

-Dart should be fun!

-Praise yourself if you did something well!

And all the most important…

Never treat yourself worse as you would treat your best friend!!!
