SQUEEE!Honestly, I've been far too excite for words these days. Well, I'm trying to organize my calendar of write-ins and meet ups, which got me thinking...Where is the best place for you to write?What about the time of the day? The first NaNo novel I finished spent the last two years in editing and passing hands to close friends until earlier this year, I decided to take plans to publish it. So, as part of the 'getting ready to publish my book' research, I came across a literary agent's blog and he is wonderful. I would recommend anyone to read him.He has a guest writer today who wrote the most prefect NaNo piece ever! It's call Nine Stages of Dating a Novel. Go! Read! Enjoy! Every year my office throws a themed Halloween party. This year we are celebrating the villains out there, which got me thinking...Who is the villain/antagonist in your story?How do they become the villain in your story?I have two in my book; one who is a murderer and the other is out for revenge...MWHAHAHA It is October, which means NaNo is right around the corner!I can't believe it is coming so quickly! I've been following Northern Virginia (because that's where I live now) so I am completely unhip to how DC Nanoites work this stuff out (I mean, I don't even know if the neighborhood I'm potentially moving to has a 'nickname' except maybe 'shady'). :)So, hi! This is my 4th year doing Nanowrimo, 2-time winner, and my name on the site is amateras. I'll be writing a steampunk historical this year (last year I did historical and really enjoyed it, but this year thought I'd expand on a character I've been thinking about all year, who happens to have a little steam in her). :)I'm a bookseller at Barnes&Noble, training to be lead in the Children's department (because I am clearly insane), but I also like fun crafty stuff like creative baking, sewing, painting, cross-stitching (okay, I admit I haven't made anything in a year), photography, altered art, and... When I'm not administering grant funding to social workers for aging research (my day job), I spend my time blogging about art, design, photography, social media, and web development at my Wordpress blog, journaling both online and off, creating crafty things, drawing, cooking, baking, smoking shisha, playing Wii games with my friends and spending time with my sweetheart, affectionately called Angelus. Though I'm a bit older than the other two moderators, we did attend school together at American University, which is how I found myself in DC after growing up in Maine and living in Germany. During college, I spent a semester in Jordan and fell in love with the Middle East. I've been living in DC since 2002 and writing with DC Wrimos since 2005 (you can find me on the NaNo boards under the name cloverdew). Though I've not yet "won" during NaNoWriMo, I have grown exponentially as a writer and look forward to doing better than ever before this year.My plans for this year's novel are quite vague at this point. I have been introduced to my three main characters and am familiar with my setting (Salem, MA). The story revolves around three friends/acquaintences of high school age and will be set in the modern era, but I'm attempting a noir/gothic/horror feel involving themes of the occult. Currently, the plan is to have the story take place over three nights (All Hallow's Eve, All Saints Day, All Souls Day). It should be quite the adventure!captandor is a music-obsessed, shiny new quarter-life crisis owning, policy dork/analyst in Petworth/Columbia Heights. The community here in the city is just wonderful and I've missed everyone a lot this year as campaigning, opera (at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop), guitar lessons, Twitter, music blogging, road trips, and RPing (at Breaking Point) have sort of taking over my brain and 'writing' hasn't been a top priority. This year's book is called Camp Dead End, both stories of young adult mysteries inspired by Nancy Drew.
