🤝 Strengthening Food Resilience Through Collaboration 🤝 Yesterday, alongside REWE Group and Infinite Roots®, Formo hosted a political breakfast at the German Parliament - just hours after a new U.S. president was elected and shortly before Germany's coalition government dissolved. The timing underscored the need for European innovation and resilience, not only in politics but in food systems and technology. Under the patronage of MP Albert Stegemann, himself coming from a farming background, our discussion focused on building a resilient, inclusive food value chain by bringing together farmers, innovators, and retailers. Speakers, including our very own Founder & CEO Raffael Wohlgensinger, Gerald Dohme (Deutscher Bauernverband e.V.), Philip Tigges (Infinite Roots), and Clément Tischer (REWE), explored the role of fermentation technology in addressing key challenges: 🌍 Geopolitical Resilience: Reducing dependency on global supply chains. 🍞 Food Security: Enabling stable, resource-efficient food production. 🌱 Climate Impact: Offering a low-footprint solution for sustainable food. In the discussion, we highlighted the importance of collaborating with farmers to unlock new business opportunities, foster understanding, and create a shared vision for the future of food. We also debated on key political opportunities to make this vision a reality, including efficient European regulation, regulatory sandboxes and farmer collaboration. Of course, we also brought our koji-made #Frischhain cheeses 🧀 to the Bundestag, and they were a creamy hit! The many MPs present loved them, showcasing firsthand the potential of fermentation-based foods. 🇪🇺 In this time of change, we’re committed to driving food innovation in Germany and Europe. 🌍 The world deserves a food system that’s kinder to both our planet and our future! 🌍 Did you know? The dairy industry generates a massive byproduct: whey, making up around 80-90% of milk used in cheese production. That’s a staggering 180 million tons of whey produced globally each year, much of which is tough to dispose of sustainably.Infinite Roots® and Technische Universität Hamburg are turning that around with €2.6M from the German government to transform whey into protein-rich mycelium, reducing waste and creating sustainable food sources.
