KU's new partnership Knowledge Unlatched is collaborating with LibLynx to enhance the delivery of comprehensive usage analytics for Open Access (OA) scholarly publications. LibLynx’s innovative Touchstone analytics solution, developed in partnership with PSI Metrics, will enable libraries worldwide to assess the impact of thousands of OA titles made available through KU’s library crowdfunding initiatives. Through this partnership, LibLynx will implement a data pipeline for KU, capable of collecting, standardizing, and enriching usage event data from partner platforms. The solution will provide real-time, customizable dashboards and detailed analytics reports tailored to the needs of libraries, institutional partners, and authors. The analytics will give libraries granular insights into their content’s usage, including data on the organizational origin of readership and engagement by title, country, organizational type, and subject area. https://lnkd.in/e9Km4jqE LibLynx - Identity, Access & Analytics for Online Resources #ScholarlyPublishing #OpenAccess - Knowledge Unlatched hat dies direkt geteilt

Openness is an Act of Love Today is Valentine’s Day—a time to celebrate love. But love isn’t just about romance. It’s about connection and trust. I think these same values are at the heart of Open Access and Open Research. Making knowledge freely available isn’t just a technical or policy decision; it’s an act of commitment to the idea that research should serve all of humanity. In times of uncertainty—whether due to funding challenges for libraries or sustainability concerns for publishers—it can be tempting to hesitate. So this Valentine’s Day, let’s celebrate open knowledge, open hearts, and open minds. Challenges abound, but we’ve got this#OpenAccess #OpenResearch #ScholarlyPublishing

Why Are We Holding Back on CC BY in Humanities Publishing? Creative Commons licenses, especially CC BY, are the backbone of the Open Access (OA) movement. They enable content to be freely shared, adapted, and reused, with proper attribution. Yet, the humanities have been slow to fully embrace this model. A quick check on some hosting platforms this morning revealed that only about 10% of humanities books are available under the CC BY license. Why is that? The continued reliance on more restrictive licenses like CC ND (No Derivatives) seems to be a major obstacle. I get it—there’s hesitation around fully embracing the flexibility of CC BY. But in fields where reinterpretation and adaptation are key, these restrictions are limiting progress. To move forward, adopting open, flexible licenses like CC BY is essential. So what’s really holding us back? With technology advancing rapidly, do we even have a choice anymore?#OpenAccess #CreativeCommons #CCBY #Humanities #Publishing - Knowledge Unlatched hat dies direkt geteilt

Curation of OA collections -- it matters a great deal Building Open Access collections isn’t just about making content freely available—it’s about making it meaningful. That’s why curation matters. As we continue our work at Knowledge Unlatched, we’re thinking about how best to enhance this approach moving forward. Recently, we’ve had insightful conversations with publishers willing to broaden their horizons and experiment with new ways of cooperating. Institutions, libraries, publishers, researchers, and funders all have a role to play in shaping the future of Open Access -- especially in times of uncertainty and tight budgets. If you are a publisher looking for new ways to publish OA without burdening researchers with publication fees, or a librarian interested in curation, please get in touch. We are always open to new ideas and collaborations. - Knowledge Unlatched hat dies direkt geteilt

The Next Frontier in Open Access: Funding Open Textbooks According to a recent KU survey, about 63% of librarians said YES to a pilot Diamond Open Access program to fund open textbooks, with another 30% saying "maybe." Only 5% opposed the idea. 💡 The message? It's time for KU to explore the next frontier. 💡 As demand for Open Educational Resources (OER) grows, more librarians are assisting faculty in integrating legitimate, high-quality OERs into their courses. 💡 Diamond Open Access—where the scholarly community funds open content without author fees—has already transformed OA publishing. Embracing it for textbooks seems a natural next step for KU.#OpenAccess #OpenTextbooks #OER #HigherEd #DiamondOA -

📢 KU Survey Says: More Open Access for the Humanities! A recent survey of librarians, including KU's Librarian Committee, has sent a clear message: Arts and Humanities need a stronger presence in Open Access (OA) book collections. While OA funding has increasingly shifted toward STEM and social sciences, it's crucial to remember that the book and the monograph remain the cornerstone of research in the Humanities. If we truly believe in equitable access to knowledge, we need to invest in these disciplines. 📖 Why does this matter? ✅ Humanities research thrives in long-form scholarship. ✅ Monographs are essential for deep, contextual analysis. ✅ OA ensures global access to crucial cultural and historical studies.#OpenAccess #Humanities #ScholarlyPublishing #OAbooks #AcademicPublishing -
