Info
The Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) was founded in 1992 as an independent network of national museum organisations representing the museum community of the member states of the Council of Europe. Together, NEMO's members speak for over 30.000 museums across Europe. NEMO ensures museums are an integral part of European life by promoting their work and value to policy makers and by providing museums with information, networking and opportunities for co-operation. NEMO supports European museums in their aim to learn from each other by networking and co-operation and shows them ways to participate in the existing European cultural policies in its function as an information channel between European institutions and museums. Believing that museums are key players in safeguarding cultural heritage and central figures on the way for a better understanding within Europe, the network fosters European policies that help museums in fulfilling their role as keepers of cultural heritage by promoting their importance to European policy makers.

From meditation cushions to medical studies, art is now being prescribed for everything from burnout to chronic illness. But what happens when comfort replaces critique? 🥰 Next to inviting visitors to meditate, the Bode Museum in Berlin, Germany, is also offering comfort and instils hope, especially for people at risk of suicide through a partnership with the Berlin Crisis Service to support people in existential distress. 🔍 Can museums remain neutral in times of crisis? At OBMIN’s “Resilience. Recovery. Future.” conference in Warsaw, NEMO Secretary General Julia Pagel discussed the idea of museum neutrality in today’s world of war, rising extremism, and polarisation. Museums are among the most trusted public institutions in Europe—but trust comes with responsibility, and impartiality doesn’t mean staying neutral or silent. A renewed role for museums should entail confronting disinformation, fostering critical thinking and encourage empathy and civic engagement. 👇 More information: https://lnkd.in/gKgwUtCm -

📖 Weekend reading 📖 A new charter invites museums to reflect on how they balance their core responsibilities with their evolving social role, where museums increasingly are expected to respond to social developments. Published by FARO. Vlaams steunpunt voor cultureel erfgoed, ICOM BELGIUM FLANDERS (ICOM VLAANDEREN) and Vlaams Museumoverleg XL. The charter is one of many documents in the last months that echoes the findings of NEMO’s Barometer on political pressure on museums, which was published at the beginning of the year. 👀 Access the charter 👉 https://lnkd.in/ecACsz_M
