Protein transition loading… 🔋 Meanwhile, please enjoy this portrait of Margaret taking Het Steen by storm. The Flemish government asked for some research and hey presto: turn out Flanders has a sizeable plant-forward food industry. Mostly thanks to ‘King Alpro’ who have a whopping 1.000 Flemish folks milking soy beans full time. But there’s a good bunch of pioneering adventurers at work too (howdy!), working hard to make the Flanders government’s ambition of 60% plant-based protein in 2030 come true. A future not only vegan cowboys will fiercely look forward to, but Flemish animals too. The study also points out the obvious: it’s hard to change our eating habits. It makes the task only clearer: we need animal free follow-ups that are just as tasty and preferably healthier and cheaper, simple as that. To make it happen, there’s a lot more pioneerin’ to do, and for that some well-placed pecunia 💰 can make all the difference - especially for the younger companies. Funding can in fact launch the entire sector into growing 6 to 15 (!) times bigger by 2035. We are so lucky to have this support from VLAIO , among others. It makes the impossible possible, and that’s just what we need to keep Flanders a wonderful place to live, love & eat cheese in. What a special milestone! 🎉 ♻ Today, we celebrated the opening of the ASPA facility, together with COO Multimetal Recycling Inge Hofkens and Bart Craane, the major of Beerse. 🙌 “Today, I am beyond proud and thankful. It is a true achievement for the Aurubis Beerse team after years of dedication. The successful start-up of ASPA directly results from the expertise and metallurgical know-how but also from team spirit and a profound engagement to the circular economy,” concludes Managing Director Dirk Vandenberghe. ℹ The ASPA facility will process anode sludge, a valuable intermediate product from electrolytic copper refining produced at the Aurubis recycling sites in Beerse and Aurubis Lünen (Germany). The new process delivers two major benefits: the faster extraction of more precious metals (such as gold and silver) as well as the full recovery of tin from the anode sludge. Intense, grateful, warm. 3 words that best reflect my feelings after the past week in Hamburg with a delegation of The Beacon | Innovation Community . Intense. For 4 days long we had the opportunity to meet new people and organizations, deepen existing contacts and discuss potential collaborations. A few key takeaways: 💥 The Port of Hamburg is the 3rd largest port in Europe and, just like in #Antwerp, transformation towards a more sustainable industry & logistics is a priority. Thank you Dr. Phanthian Zuesongdham for sharing your ideas on this transformation process and for your efforts to create an open innovation ecosystem. 💥 Hamburg has a vibrant startup scene that can contribute to this transformation. ➡ Digital Hub Logistics Hamburg: a fantastic location with a huge network for business development.
