Britt Robertson Joins Eddie Murphy In ‘Cook’ (original) (raw)
EXCLUSIVE: Britt Robertson has inked a lead role in Cook, the tale of a cook hired by a dying man to make meals for his girlfriend and his daughter after he passes. Eddie Murphy is set to play the titular Henry Church, an artistic man who agrees to care for the dying Marie Brody and her daughter Charlotte for six months, only to end up ingrained in their lives for the next 15 years.
Robertson, who most recently filmed Disney sci-fier Tomorrowland opposite George Clooney and the Nicholas Sparks drama The Longest Ride for Fox 2000, will play Charlotte.
Cook is directed by _Driving Miss Daisy_‘s Bruce Beresford and is gearing up to shoot this month in L.A. Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Lee Nelson and David Buelow are producing the project, which scripter Susan McMartin (Two And A Half Men, Californication) based on her own experience.
Cook marks the second film to be financed and produced by Canton and Courtney Solomon’s new Cinelou banner following the Jennifer Aniston starrer Cake, which is positioned for the awards race and also stars Robertson. The films fall under Cinelou’s 10-picture financing deal with Taiwan-based Shenghua Entertainment and Warner Bros. which is handling international distributino. Cook is co-produced by Cinelou and EMA Entertainment.
“Courtney and I loved the material,” said Canton. “As with Cake, we’re driven by the fact that great screenplays are coming our way to finance.” Cinelou has slotted dark comedy Cake for a one-week qualifying run in December before it rolls out in January.
Robertson broke out in recent years on the small screen starring on Life Unexpected, The Secret Circle, and Under The Dome. She is repped by Innovative Artists.
