‘Silicon Valley’ Star T.J. Miller To Host Critics’ Choice Awards (original) (raw)
Stand-up comic and Silicon Valley star T.J. Miller will host the 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards on January 17, making him the first to emcee the group’s combined movie and TV honors.
Airing live on A&E, Lifetime and LMN from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, the show will beat the Golden Globes to the screen by a week. This year’s presentation adopts the Globe’s more expansive reach by combining the movie and TV awards — previously handled in separate programs — into one three-hour event starting at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.
Nominations for the 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards will be announced December 14.
Silicon Valley took last year’s Critics’ Choice nod for best comedy series, with Miller receiving the award for best supporting actor. His stand-up work has been featured on Comedy Central, and he’s set to star opposite Ryan Reynolds in Marvel’s upcoming Deadpool.
“We are thrilled to have T.J. join us as host of this exciting night,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, EVP Programming for A&E. “His quick wit and unique sense of humor serve as the perfect paring as we celebrate the best of television and film together for the first time.”
A&E Networks partnered last year with the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) to become the exclusive home to Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and Critics’ Choice Television Awards.
