what is the title of this book!? ok so there is this one dean koontz book i read a few years back and cannot for the life of me find out what it was called.
in it there is something (can't remember if it was a man or a crature) who comes to you and basically tells you that your time is limited and before he leaves he goes "tick tock tick tock" (and NO it is not the book by koontz that is actually called tick tock). so in this book i also remember that there was a boy, his mum and his dog who i think were living out of a car.
and there was also a fight between the ticktock-thing and a person (cant remember who) in a kitchen, in a house if i remember correctly, which is by the ocean.
so if anyone can tell me hat this book is then i would really really appreciate it!

I was just wondering what other authors people on here recommended. I dont know if its like swearing around here asking that but I'm sure Mr Koontz doesn't object to us sampling other people's work lol. I tried a bit of Dean Koontz with "From a Buick 8", "Danse Macabre" and "The Green Mile" With the exception of the Green Mile, I was particularly gripped so what else can I try. This is not to say I am bored with Koontz' work as I'm not. I cant put a book of his down once Ive picked it up and my latest read is Forever Odd, which wasnt amazing in comparison to Odd Thomas but I still enjoyed it nonetheless.
I heard Ann Rice is very good although I'm not big on vampire stuff and from what I can gather, this is pretty much all she writes about, correct me if I'm wrong...
Looking forward to your replies. Lets keep this community alive!

Titles I've been part of this community a while, I think, but I've never made a post up till now.
Anyways, I just recently read the new afterword for Dragon Tears, and I find it rather interesting because it dealt with two things that came to into my mind when I originally read Dragon Tears:
1. The title was horrible in relation with the novel itself (But I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the title was an angle that I just didn't recognize.)
2. The "tick tock" thing seemed strangely similiar to Koontz's other novel, Tick Tock.
So, hmm, I suppose that a community post is meant to set the grounds for discussion. Was I the only who thought that Dragon Tears was a bad title to begin with? And while we're on the subject, what Koontz book titles do you guys like the most? (odd topic, I know).
Personally, I favor Cold Fire (my favorite novel of his), Strangers (I like how the title could refer beyond the main characters), and From the Corner of His Eye (I just like the sound of it.)

Gone to the Dogs... :) (Crossposted to deankoontz.)
Wow...just finished "The Taking", and DANG, that was one dark, creepy rollercoaster of a book. O_o I was almost afraid to read it all the way to the end, unable to imagine how there could be any hope, any way out of that nightmare...but...well, I won't give it away. ;) I will say this, though...after reading so many of his intelligent dog/religious-themed books, I can't help but wonder if Koontz might secretly be a Christian therian (canine, of course). IMO, you can't write so many books along this same theme, and so very passionately, without believing/feeling it yourself to some extent. You can sense behind his words his own deep yearning to commune with dogs, to understand their thoughts, to be one with them and with nature, to regain Paradise Lost. Many of his fans are now griping about "all the religious dog stories", but I for one hope he keeps writing them; I dearly love them. They are full of such warm joy, hope, faith, love and courage amidst all the stark despair, horror, sorrow, death and darkness...Definitely worth reading, all of them, whether or not you're religious, whether or not you're a dog lover, whether or not you've ever read any other Koontz books at all (I've read most of them). My fave dog stories are, in this order: "The Watchers", "One Door Away From Heaven", "Fear Nothing", it's sequel "Seize the Night", and "The Taking". Not sure if he's done any other dog stories beyond these; can anyone here tell me? *eagerly looks forward to getting his next novel* :)

P.S. Anyone else here read "Oddkins"? I loved it, as did my 11yo son. :)

Seeing someone else post in here reminded me that I was in this group, lol. I was wondering if anyone else has read koontz's afterwords of his books? Obviously we have all read the books, and not everyone of them has an afterword, but I picked up a copy of Cold Fire recently and the afterword was hilarious. Does anyone else know of books of his that have afterwords?

Seems like we hardly ever get any posts here. Well Koontz has a new book out in May, so maybe things will pick up then. Hope everyone is looking forward to THE HUSBAND like i am...

Book Auction Hi folks. Dusty Stacks Bookstore is running a number of very affordable auctions on eBay. One of those books is Strangers and includes a Stranger bookplate signed by Dean Koontz. Happy New Year.

My brothers bought me Forever Odd for Christmas, and I thought it would be a good idea to reread Odd Thomas before I got into the new book. Except as I started reading, I remembered the ending of the book, and now I can't seem to finish it because it was too sad. I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone who hasn't read it, but I thought you all may understand this dilemia.

to let you know about a Dean Koontz heavy auction A housemate of mine gave me a bunch of Dean Koontz stuff to sell on Ebay. Some of it is autographed, rare, first edition, etc. There are two items which have been written under pseudonyms. There's a literary magazine from his college in 1965 that includes three of his short stories. Definitely worth checking out for Koontz fans.

I generally don't like to subject people in communities to items I'm selling, but I'd much rather have these items end up in the hands of a Koontz fan than someone who just wants to resell it. While they were not my items, I know that my housemate was very attached and had a hard time parting with them. If anyone is interested, please let me know or place a bid.
