There’s no place like The View for the holidays! On Friday, the ABC talk showwrapped 2020 with an episode jam-packed with holiday fun, gift suggestions, and even a musical performance. For the sixth year in a row, Darlene Love performed her holiday classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” and even though it looked a bit different this time around, it was just as festive as in years past.
“For the last six seasons, music Legend Darlene love has helped us celebrate the season by singing her holiday classic right here. And we’re making sure we keep that tradition going in 2020,” said Joy Behar, by way of introduction. “Right now, here on our stage to perform ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ with a little help from her friends, give it up for Darlene Love!”
First released in 1963, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” has long been a holiday season staple, and Love has been happy to oblige fans with a new performance each year From 1986 to 1992, Love performed the song on _Late Night with David Letterman_‘s annual Christmas episode, and she continued the tradition when Letterman moved to CBS’ The Late Show in 1993. Love’s final Late Show performance came in 2014, just a few months before Letterman left the late night show in May 2015.
The following year, Love found a new home for “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” at The View, where she has performed the song as a duet with stars such as Patti LaBelle, Bryan Adams, and Jason Derulo. Today, however, Love performed the classic alone, although _The View_‘s co-hosts did step up as socially-distant backup singers. Not even a pandemic can curb _The View_‘s holiday cheer.
Friday’s broadcast marks _The View_‘s final episode before its annual winter hiatus. From Monday, December 21 to Friday, January 1, ABC will air an encore episode of The View during the show’s regular 11/10c time slot. New episodes (and co-host Meghan McCain!) will return on Monday, January 4, 2021.
