Better than opensource, FREE software: x-posted [03 Aug 2004|11:43am]

Raw contents below.]<a href="Welcome to the GNU Project, www.gnu.org. The GNU Project was launched in 1984 to develop a complete UNIX style operating system which is free software: the GNU system. (GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX”; it is pronounced “guh-noo.”) Variants of the GNU operating system, which use the kernel Linux, are now widely used; though these systems are often referred to as “Linux,” they are more accurately called GNU/Linux systems. We maintain this free software definition to show clearly what must be true about a particular software program for it to be considered free software.``Free software'' is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of ``free'' as in ``free speech,'' not as in ``free beer.''Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. More precisely, it refers to four kinds of freedom, for the users of the software:--The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0). --The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this. --The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2). --The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3). Access to the source code is a precondition for this. GNOME is Free Software and part of the GNU project, dedicated to giving users and developers the ultimate level of control over their desktops, their software, and their data.

Former Presidents at the Democratic Convention [26 Jul 2004|09:32pm]
I only saw two. First was Jimmy Carter. Now, Jimmy has done some cool things now that he's out of office, but I must say, he didn't really have any reason to be elected. I guess it was his smile. And those oh-so-big lips. His speech was good, but nothing amazing.Bill Clinton was the next former president I saw. If he could run for office again, he could win in heartbeat. He is probably the best orator Washington D.C. has ever seen, and very funny too. He made fun of the Republicans by pointing out that they had givin him of all people a tax cut, and he didn't think it was fair. It does beg the question, though, did he or did he not keep his tax return? Did he donate it to the Democratic party? To the Kerry-Edwards campaign? To charity? Did he return it to the White House? Or did he, of all things, keep it for himself? I don't know which, and he didn't tell. Then some singer came on and ruined it. She made me almost fall asleep! They could have gotten anyone off the 'Rock Against Bush' compilation. I would have loved to see Bill Clinton open for Anti-Flag, or NoFx."John Kerry is the right choice for America! And now, Anti-Flag...""Turncoat! Killer! Liar! Thief!"hahahacheck out my latest masterpiecehttp://www.geocities.com/animan4/billAndaf.jpgDoes anyone know what other guest speakers will be showing up this week?Does anyone know when John Kerry's personality will be taking shape in the public eye? Clinton talked about him for a while, but I still can't find any real personality. Except that he is a terrible orator. And don't you think that this year the Daily Show should pull an all-nighter for the election? I'd rather watch them than CNN.

For those of you who may have missed the reports in the press, a man named Micah Painter was seriously assaulted during Pride. Three young men with broken bottles slashed a serious wound on his back, gashed his face and broke his nose. Local activists Michael McAfoose and Donny Gallegos are organizing a show of support and protest march on Sunday, July 11th. (That's this coming Sunday.) Rally at Westlake at 4 and then march to SCCC starting at 5. At 6pm, the Seattle LGBT Community Center is hosting a benefit to raise funds to help Micah with his bills during his recovery period. The organizers are seeking performers (musicians, spoken word, etc.) for this event; it's very short notice, of course, but if you are available and interested call the hotline at 206-333-7196 for more info; anyone seeking information on this event should call as well. Go if you can!

This is your news junkie coming at you with *imagine that* more news. [22 Jun 2004|03:35pm]
[ **mood** | enraged ] What the fuck is the world coming to that we feel we have the right to define the word love? And now we want to define the word marriage. I'm totally outraged at these absent-minded fucks who think that the balance of nature will be thrown off if two guys get married. Some people argue that they are worried about the well-being of the children. Well what the fuck? If I kid has two moms or two dads, it won't fuck up their brain. It won't make them feel less about themselves and it won't make them feel obligated to be a fucking homosexual.I say fuck a lot when I'm mad...It won't kill animals in the rainforest if two chicks get married. It won't spill oil in the Atlanic Ocean. They think that they can fuck up the world and then blame it on the most innocent of people. It's not the gay parents that mess their kids up, it's the self-centered fucks that walk around with sticks up their asses telling us who to be and how to act and who to love.I am angry. Hear me roar.It all started when I read this lovely artice that I found on msnbc.com. What I love about this counrty is their false advertisment. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave. But freedom will only buy you a voters ballot and a church down the street. We are not free. We just have more freedom than others. Or is that even true?I wrote a poem about 9/11 while back for a class. I shall post it upon request. It's called Quarters. It's basically about how everything is like "IN GOD WE TRUST" everywhere, when God really doesn't do shit.My name is Monica Thomas, I am fourteen years old, and I would like to set fire to my government.click here for reading

Goddamn! What the hell is wrong wit y'all? [11 Jun 2004|07:07pm]
Feel free to comment on this...It's my brother. He was sitting on the floor in front of the television blow-drying his afro. Don't ask me why. He's done it more than once and it's never looked that god.So he's sitting on the floor watching Comic View on BET. Like always, the guy on TV was talking up some crazy anecdote about white people... And at the time I'm on the phone and don't pay much attention to it. When I get off the phone, he comes and retells the story he'd just heard on TV. I didn't really pay attention to the context of the story, but it was the way he told it that caught my attention. I wasn't surprised. After only thirty minutes of Black Entertainment Television, my well-educated (for a 6th-grader) little brother went from a normal kid to an ebonics-talking, slang-spitting retard. I don't know how I can explain it to you guys, because I don't even know how to spell half of the things he said. But if you can imagine the most horrifying rap song in the world... it may have sounded like that. I almost wanted to slap him and tell him to go back to school. It's no wonder he's failing Language Arts. But here's the thing: How does a smart kid like that completely butcher his vocabulary in a matter of minutes? If he hears somehting, he'll immidiately say the same. Like when he talks to his friends... I can tell when he's on the phone with a different person, because he talks differently. It would be like me immidiately speaking with a Hispanic accent when I talked to someone named... (insert stereotypical Hispanic name here).I can't really describe my emotions in words right now. Maybe the best word is... outrage?
