Personal informationI am living proof that the term "native speaker" does not really tell much about the linguistic abilities of a translator. Although I was born in the Czech Republic, I do have full "native speaker competence" in German - and German only! Although my proficiency in English has hugely improved in the last 17 years, while I was living in Australia (including some years as an olive farmer and animal breeder) and now in England, just south of London. I have been a full-time professional freelance translator for EN-DE for more than 30 years, and I only rarely work with the Czech language.
