Denvention 3 (original) (raw)
01 October 2011 @ 11:58 am
My dear People, today marks the eleven hundred and forty-seventh day since the end of Denvention3. I shall not keep you long. I have called you all together for a Purpose. First of all, to tell you that I am immensely fond of you all, and that eleven hundred and forty-seven post-D3 days is too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable fans. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. Thank you very much for coming to our little party. Now I wish to make an ANNOUNCEMENT. This is the END. I am going. I am leaving NOW. GOOD-BYE!
Due to an unfortunate recent spam incident (apologies to anyone that saw it, and thanks to everyone who sent me a head-up -- I'm way behind on reading anything on LJ these days), I'm changing this community to moderated posts only. I considered shutting off posting entirely, since I'm not sure there's anything left to be said that wouldn't be better said in the current and/or general WorldCon communities, but you know, just in case.
Of course, that means I have to approve any postings from here on, which (given my somewhat ridiculous current workload) might mean some delay at times, but c'est la vie, I suppose.

Old URL:
http://www.denvention.org
(or http://pl745.pairlitesite.com/)
New URL:
http://www.fanac.org/Denvention3/
I'm not sure if we'll be able to get the domain pointed to the new site.
However, if you have deep links they will break because I have to
convert every page at the site from .php to .html to have it run on FANAC.
The top directory is done. When the site map (http://www.fanac.org/Denvention3/sitemap.html)
points to a PDF, the PDF is in place and viewable.
I'm sorry I'm so late getting going on this, but the old site is definitely going to
die (probably later today). All the raw material is at the new site; it's
just a matter of getting the rest of the conversions done. And it will take time.

I am definitely reading the comments here about replacing Denvention checks before the bank accounts are closed. I hope to reach everyone personally by the end of the coming weekend. If you prefer to contact me by email you can use program@denvention.org.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Denvention3 will be closing it's bank accounts BEFORE the end of this month. We still have a number of checks outstanding to members. If you know anyone on this list please contact them and encourage them to cash their checks immediately. We will not be able to replace any of these checks after the next few days and the checks will not be good after Christmas. Thanks to everyone who participated!

If you were a member of the Denvention3 Con Committee and you attended any of the five Con Committee/Division Heads meetings that were held BEFORE the convention (four in Denver, one in Las Vegas) then there should be an email in your box about expense reimbursement. Please check your spam filters and/or contact Mem Morman or Kent Bloom if you have NOT received this email but think that you should have.
I thought I sent this before, but I haven't gotten any responses, so I'm re-sending.

Please drop me a comment if you recognize anything and we will arrange to have it returned to you.
Please pass this along to any pertinent lists.
Current Mood: cheerful
On account of the issue having come back up to the surface recently thanks to the latest issue of Locus and questions elsewhere, I spent about six hours last night extracting out the footage of the debate at WSFS Business Meeting at Denvention 3 over the Best Semiprozine Hugo Award. (The resulting amendment passed and is on the agenda for possible ratification at Anticipation.) Because the discussion was long, I had to split it into two parts.
The first half is the technical debate that concerned itself mainly with trying to define the precise effect of the proposal and how to accomplish it, and probably is mainly of interest to people interested in meeting mechanics.
The second half is the substantive debate on the merits of the proposal. Both segments are 13-14 minutes long, but if you're interested in the meat of the matter, you can pick up with the second half and you will not have missed much.
The reason I haven't done the entire Business Meeting is because that's around six or seven hours or so of raw footage, and it took me six hours to produce less than 30 of usable output here, so you can see how long it would take me to cut up the entire meeting.

Got away with it for another year! Here's hoping that next year contains as much good news as this one did.

I realize a full balance sheet may not be available but I'm curious as to whether the con made money or gave us more than our money's worth.
