ATTN: students with a .edu email address Amazon is offering a free 1 year subscription to Amazon Prime (Which usually costs 79ayear.Perksincludefree2dayshipping,and79 a year. Perks include free 2 day shipping, and 79ayear.Perksincludefree2dayshipping,and3.99 overnight shipping): http://amzn.to/bSH8jP (url shortened with bit.ly)
This is being marketed towards college students but all you need is a valid .edu email address, so teachers and alumni might be able to benefit from this too (though the Terms of Service does say they have the right to ask for proof that you are a current student).
I apologize if you have already heard about this amazing deal. I just want to help spread the word on this before they stop offering it. I am not an employee of Amazon, nor do I gain anything from people signing up for this service.

Operation Holiday Card is up and running again this year! This is a wonderful program that distributes Christmas, Hanukkah, and holiday cards with short personal messages to troops deployed overseas during the holiday season. This program was a huge success last year collecting over 16,000 cards.
I am asking people to write a note to an unknown service member inside your card, seal it, and send it to the address below. Cards can be for Christmas, Hanukkah (please write this on the back of your envelope), or general Season’s Greetings. Your words of support mean so much to these men and women. Remember each card you send is another service member touched.
This program works because individuals take this initiative to spread the word and collect cards with in their lives. Please pass the word about this project to everyone you know. Feel free to post it in your journals, other communities, promote it in your workplace, or your place of worship. One woman from my church last year collected 200 cards in her workplace. How many cards can you collect? Cards can be sent to:
Operation Holiday Card
226 Albany Ave
Shreveport, LA 71105
This year’s deadline will be Dec. 3, all cards must be received in Louisiana by that time. The cards will need plenty of time to get overseas. I thank you for your support of this wonderful project. There is so much support for our troops as they spend the holidays away from their families.
Please look at our new website http://sites.google.com/site/operationholidaycard/Home for more information. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at operationholidaycard@gmail.com
Thank you and God Bless you,

Just had dinner with DePauw's new president, Dr. Brian Casey, and I have this to say: he is awesome. Very different from Bobby B, but in good ways. Anyone else making it to the inauguration?

Sooooo...did any other of you alumni out there get the ridiculously nice invitation to President Casey's inauguration, or am I just special somehow? (None of the other DePauwples here at Paige's seem to have gotten one.)

Winter Term So, I've got one more question!
I have a winter term thing all set up. I've got my paperwork filled out and everything. I'm going to work at a school for emotionally handicapped students. However, the paperwork says that an internship must last 6 weeks. Uhh... is that right? WT itself is only like 3.5 weeks. How can they really make independent experiences )not on-campus) last 6 weeks? Also, since this is at a school, they start back when WT starts and I can't keep going into second semester just to make it last 6 weeks.
Any information? Are they strict about that "6 week rule," or could they make allotments? Is 6 weeks even correct?
Thanks!

Intro to Creative Writing or Acting 1? I'd like a class that has less hard-core writing- creative writing is okay, but I don't want a lot of ridiculous papers. Any insights? Thanks!

Operation Holiday Card Complete!!!!
Dear Friends,
Operation Holiday cards was an amazing success this year. Last year we collected 1,500 cards and set a goal of 2,000 cards for this year. This year we collected over 16,000 cards! We were drowning in cards, but it was wonderful! The cards were sent to Balad Air Base in Baghdad on Monday and Tuesday. It took 16 boxes. Thank you for helping to make Operation Holiday Card such a huge success.

Dear Friends,
Operation Holiday Card is well under way. With two weeks left in the collection I have collected 586 cards. This number may seem small but I know of many people who are planning on sending in cards in the next two weeks. Holiday cards have been coming in from all over the country; from schools, workplaces, scout troops, and individuals. What a wonderful “Thank You” to the troops overseas.
As I celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday, I am thankful that my family is together this year. There are so many families separated by deployments this time of year. What a better way to say Thank You than to sign a box of Holiday cards as a family after your meal. Could your family sign a box of cards? Multiple cards can be sent together in a larger envelope to save postage. Please send your cards to:
Operation Holiday Card
PMB 283
6658 Youree Dr Suite 180
Shreveport, LA 71105
Please remember the cards must be RECEIVED in Louisiana by Dec. 5, so they can make it to Baghdad in time for Christmas.
Thank you for your support of the troops!

Dear Friends,
Believe it or not the Holiday season is upon us. With Halloween over the stores are filled with Christmas decorations. Last year with my husband deployed in Kuwait I started Operation Holiday Card to collect Christmas, Hanukkah, and holiday cards for troops overseas during this season. It was huge success last year. I started the project with a goal of collecting 200 cards to send to one base in Kuwait. The response was amazing. When the collection was over I had over 1500 cards sent to Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and Balad Air Base in Baghdad, Iraq. The cards were passed out to the troops at dinner on Christmas Day. As each person signed in at the mess hall they were handed a Holiday card. The cards were read, passed around the tables among friends, and many were eventually hung on the wall for all to see.

PE credits It never seems like anyone knows for sure, so I'll ask on here just to see, even though I feel silly about it. How many PE credits does one need to graduate? .25 or .5? (I'm a senior, so I don't have to fulfill all 6 groups, just 4 of them, and I already have done so.)
EDIT (10-12-07): You only need to take a PE class if you are trying to complete group six. I'm not, so I don't have to! (And therefore, I dropped my PE class yesterday.)

Does anyone know anything about American National Government as a class? Does it suck, or is it good? What's the workload like? The prof. I'm considering is Stienbrickner- what's he like?
Also, does anyone have an old syllabus for computational discrete math with Kannowski?
Thanks!!

Dear Friends,
Operation Holiday Card was a huge success. My goal for the project was to collect 200 cards. In the end we collected over 1500 cards. What a blessing to our troops. Cards came in from all across the country; from California to Maine. They came from Brownie troops, from classrooms, from offices, and from homes. The our-pouring of support was amazing.
With such a large number of cards I was able to reach out to two different bases to spread Holiday cheer to the troops. The cards were sent to an Air Force Base in Kuwait and a joint Air Force/Army base near Baghdad. One of the men who will be passing out the cards, SMSgt Lopez, told me, “I tell you it wouldn't happen if there weren't dedicated Americans to [do] these heart-warming events.” Together we were able to bring smiles to the faces of many serving overseas during this difficult time.
Thank you so much for your participation in this project. Every card you wrote touched another service member. December is a hard time to be away from your friends and family but these brave men and women do with without question.
Since there was such a huge response to this collection I promise that it will not be the last. As long as there are troops deployed during the Holidays there will be Operation Holiday Card. So watch your mailbox next year as we will continue to make the Holidays a little brighter for those serving out county.
This collection has been an amazing show us support. Thank you so much for your participation.

Dear friends,
Operation Holiday Card has had an amazing response. So far I have collected 396 cards. What a wonderful gift to our servicemen and women. But we can do better. Just think of the numbers we could reach if each one of you sent in 2 cards. My original goal for the project was 200 cards, my new goal is 600. One donor promoted this cause in her workplace and sent in 200 cards! So please take a few minutes today. Write a note to an airmen or soldier inside your card. Your words of support mean so much to these people. Cards can be sent to:
Operation Holiday Card
PMB
284
6658 Youree Dr Suite 180
Shreveport, LA 71105
There is a limited time on this collection since the cards will then have to be sent overseas. Collection ends Dec 10, 2006, cards must be
received by that date. So please take a few minutes and send your card(s) today!
Thank you!

Dear Fellow DePauw grad and students,
My husband is currently deployed and will be spending his first Christmas away from his family. I know he is not alone. So, I am organizing a Holiday Card collection. In an effort to support him, and the many troops like him, I am asking you to send a Christmas, Hanukkah,
Holiday card addressed to an unknown serviceman or woman. These people are away from their families in this season and we want them to know we support them. I will be collecting these cards and forwarding them to my husband and others I know overseas. They will in turn distribute them directly to the troops on their bases. Cards can be sent to:
Operation Holiday Card
PMB

6658 Youree Dr Suite 180
Shreveport, LA 71105
There is a limited time on this collection since the cards will then have to be sent overseas. Collection ends
Dec 10, 2006, so please take a few minutes and send your card(s) today!
