Halo cake [06 Apr 2008|11:13pm]
A cake I made for my brother's 23rd birthday. It is Master Chief's helmet and rifle and fragment grenade. They are made out of rice crispy treats covered with fondant.

Banana Cream Pie (no pudding used) [16 Mar 2008|11:21pm]
I purchased Tartine's cookbook and this is the first recipe I have completed.. it's a Banana Cream Pie made with no pudding... It was very time consuming but I guess that comes with the territory when you are a beginner.. The pie tasted amazing.. It was very sweet and really rich so I don't think I could eat the whole thing in the next few days :o( but over all, it's a great banana cream pie..tartine banana cream pie

Lovemuffin. [15 Feb 2008|08:14am]
Yesterday I got up extra early to surprise the boyfriend with some baked goods for what my aunt refers to as "VD Day". I promise you these won't give you the clap , I got the recipe from Mr. Breakfast, and he's clean. The recipe is good, but I, a rabid chocolate eater, did scale back on the chocolate chips to only include a cup of them. I think an entire 12oz bag would have been a bit excessive. I am glad I did, because the muffins had a good chocolate-to-muffin ratio. Just sayin'

Lemon Cake [24 Jan 2008|12:59pm]
After(not exaggerating) years of pining and longing stares at Kohls and Targets and the like, I finally have been blessed with one of these:Oh my god its beautiful...I need a minute to compose myself.Okay. Anyway. So that means it's time for some effing dessert.Last week I made lemon cake, from a recipe I found on the Food Network webpage. Here's the recipe if you're interested.I don't have a picture of the cake, so you will have to endure a MS Paint rendition I did at work instead:

Inspiration? [24 Jan 2008|03:07am]
I've been inspecting my photobucket accounts and discovered I had lots of favorite dessert related images saved, so is it ok if I shared them? They're just fun. Dessert makes me happy. And I cannot resist sharing the pro-dessert queen Stella Mars!

White Chocolate and Orange Cheesecake [18 Jan 2008|09:56pm]
[ **mood** | calm ] Made this cheesecake today, it's delicious! the recipe is from the cooks.com and then I changed it to add the orange: 2 lbs. cream cheese1 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla4 eggs8 oz. white chocolate, melted1 c orange juice1/4 c sugar1 tbs orange zestBeat cream cheese until smooth. Add sugar, vanilla, eggs mix well. Reserve 1 cup of mixture. Then add chocolate to the rest and mix in. Boil orange juice until it is reduced by about half, cool it and add orange zest and reserved mixture. YOu can add food coloring for more color. Place white mixture in prepared 10-inch spring form pan and scoop orange mixture on top and swirl in with a spoon. Bake in water bath at 250 degrees for 1 hour (cover the outside of the springform pan with foil completely so water won't get in). Use any crust recipe you like, I just used a premade store bought one and placed almonds on the bottom.

Some chick argued with me about what was displayed on a cash register, then goes "oh fine I'll go out and look at it" after the 5th time I told her what I was seeing when accessing remotely didn't match up with her description. What the fuck. My thoughts were elsewhere, obviously.

I don't have a camera. Otherwise I would be taking pictures of things like effing brownie sundaes. This was drawn from a fond memory of brownie sundaes past. I remember it like it was about 5 days ago. Sigh. This rendering of the dessert I ate over the weekend, with its smug lines and colors, reveals how challenging my job is as I did this at work while helping people who work at a large-button-wielding-office-supply-pushing-corporation get their registers and blackberries to work.

I graduated from UMass about a year ago. I remember the day as being very hot.I also recall how I was being steamed and growing wilted like a piece of asparagus in my black cap and gown. It was nice to get into an air-conditioned restaurant after fending off heat exhaustion in the car for the ever so slow, hour long downward spiral from the 4th or 5th floor in the Arena's parking garage. The food at Bertuccis is becoming disappointingly more commercial and unsatisfying, but their dessert is still pretty damned tasty. My uncle got the dessert trilogy, and half the table was muttering the Imperial Death March when it was served. My brother and his then girlfriend and soon to be knocked up wife decided to share some tiramisu. It should be known that this woman was referred to, by my brother, as the diet cola of girlfriends."This is Tiramisu?""Whats wrong with it?""Its not made right.", she went on about how there wasn't supposed to be powdered chocolate, or something to that extent."Do you want to send it back?""NO!", because as opposed to this argument, she didn't want to cause a scene."Fine then I'll eat it.", Rick said, almost threateningly as he was obviously struggling to understand just what Nicole wanted and was getting frustrated."NO! DON'T TOUCH IT!!"The argument cycled a few times before Rick finally managed to eat the damned thing despite Nicole's indecisive whining. I'd take dessert over that chick too.
