The power system structure has been changing according to the evolving scientific technologies. A novel concept in this direction is a Microgrid (MG) which is a small power system having generation and distribution with negligible presence of transmission. A MG can operate in off-grid (standalone) or grid-connected mode. The objective of this study is to perform techno-economic analysis and to design a MG model for the purpose of rural electrification. The region being considered has different resources which are capable of providing reliable supply to the load. The proposed model is compared economically with the option of grid extension. The study considers power system reliability and economic feasibility as the primary objectives for MG modelling. The village of Jarre which is located in the eastern part of Ethiopian, Somali region, is selected for this study. Particl...

A VPP is very effective in utilizing the characteristics of distributed energy sources and implementation of demand response. This paper addresses energy trading and demand response scenario involving VPP, having PhotoVoltaic (PV) generation, along with primary and secondary electricity consumers. The participants engage in day ahead energy markets. In this paper, a novel demand response approach based on creation of two types of time zones namely excessive zone and non-excessive zone is proposed. The load scheduling is performed by shifting load in between these zones. A Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based technique is proposed between the VPP and users, to optimize the economic advantages of all participants. The results show that the proposed scheme improves the profit of VPP and simultaneously reduces the energy costs of users in day ahead ener...

It is advisable to use the most efficient optimization technique based on its suitability to find an optimized solution of the problem. Active power loss minimization in a system is obtained by controlling the flow of reactive power. The reactive power flow control can be achieved through generator bus voltage, transformer tappings and shunt capacitor banks. An overview of different artificial intelligence (AI) optimization techniques used in power optimization problems are discussed in this paper. Hybrid or improved AI techniques having peculiar characteristics are also presented. This paper studies different techniques implemented for active power loss minimization.

In major distribution system overcurrent protection is used for protection. Hence a proper coordination should be done for overcurrent protection scheme. A protective scheme should operate as fast as possible, but when it operates a lesser area must be isolated, so that less blackout should occur. The two main parameter of overcurrent protection scheme are Time setting and current setting. The setting of relay should be such that, the desired operation should occur. This paper discusses the different Linear programming techniques implemented on a proposed system. Dual Simplex method is faster as compared to other methods of Linear programming.
