Planned change: upgrade repo2docker default Python to 3.10 (and other potential upgrades) (original) (raw)
January 10, 2023, 6:42pm 1
There’s an issue open on the Repo2docker repository to bump the default Python version from 3.7 (end of life Jun 2023) to 3.10. This will affect https://mybinder.org and anything else using repo2docker.
This will only affect repositories that don’t pin the Python version. If you’ve got any input on whether this is a good or bad idea, or on how best to gather feedback and to communicate this change to others, please feel free to comment on that issue.
There’s a separate issue for long-term planning of other end-of-life dependencies, such as Ubuntu 18.04 (EOL April 2023) which is the current base image in repo2docker:
Again, any input from the communitry is welcome!
