[GSoC 2025] LLVM QIR (original) (raw)
Dear LLVM community,
My name is Mark Sobolev, I’m MSc student in the field of Computational Sciences. I’m working in the area of Quantum Qubit routing, and thus I’ve been thinking to contribute the results to the open source projects I adore (and I’m a big fan of LLVM). Is there an opportunity to work on something like QIR (and qubit routing functionality integration) as a part of GSoC 2025? If no, I’d still love to hear if there is some active work in this LLVM - QIR tandem.
Hello Mark,

The projects normally require mentor from the LLVM community (e.g. an LLVM contributor). Also note that while LLVM project definitely welcomes all contributions it would be great to mention why QIR integration would benefit LLVM as a whole.
Hello Anton,
Thank you for your reply, I’ll think about this matter more deeply (mostly potential LLVM benefits , on the tip of my mind is only potential quantum program transpilation and possibility to adapt to different backends ( a bit vague) , but I’m not sure what the current short term and long term goals LLVM has); thus probably won’t suite into GSoC timeframe. I’ll try to come up with a more detailed integration proposal later then (probably gather some people around this also).
Good luck to you and LLVM!
