Does web-ext not load extension when use with Chrome? (original) (raw)
August 28, 2025, 2:46pm 1
Just tried running my extension in Chrome for the first time with web-ext run --verbose -t chromium. Chrome is launched, but my extension isn’t. Is this the intended behavior? Am I expected to manually go to ‘Extensions’ and ‘Load unpacked’? Somehow I can’t find any threads/similar questions on google.

Works for me.
What does web-ext output to the console when you run it?

Don’t forget to update web-ext from time to time:
npm i -g web-ext
It got broken not that long ago when Chrome disabled MV2 extensions (and web-ext is using one companion extension).

Fixed after updating from 8.2.0 to latest (8.9.0).
Didn’t even think the problem was with web-ext itself, turned out it was: fix: support Chrome 137+ in web-ext run -t chromium (+functional tests) #3434
