Timescales for processing PyPI account recovery requests (original) (raw)

I’ve unexpectedly joined the queue of people who’ve submitted a PyPI account recovery request: unfortunately I’ve been unable to “recover” my recovery codes from my “safe place”, for various reasons, and the TOTP app got deleted because of phone issues. Fortunately, I have tokens for my packages, which means I can keep publishing them, but now I can’t manage my PyPI account.

I’m wondering if someone can give me a rough timescale for how long the recovery process might take: are we talking about weeks, months etc.?. As a PyPI user it would seem useful to publish this information, so that users can figure out alternatives while they’re waiting.

You can kind of eyeball it by looking at the issues backlog. Looks like the issues being closed today are 1-2 weeks old with initial response in 3-4 days.

Hi @sr-murthy, barring any holidays, time off, or conference times such as PyCon, I typically try to triage issues within the first two business days. Resolution time of issues on the other hand, can be as quick as 3-days or a week, or even longer, depending on how soon a user gets back to us with their part of the account recovery process or any other information that we need. Hope this answers your question!

Thanks, that sounds fine!
