Ok, let’s just keep this in Ask Fedora , it doesn’t seem to be an issue affecting most of our users.

In fact, there are others here with the same problem. I would therefore leave it in the Proposed Common Issues group, but leave this decision to you Kamil, see for example: Strange Gray Rectangle in Top Left Corner

This is also affecting me on my Fedora 40 GNOME login; uninstalling xwaylandvideobridge removed the rectangle.

Would you also please make an appropriate comment on the bug report linked above about this problem with that package.

I only heard of xwaylandvideobridge on Plasma 6 (they leave a big useless notification tile for it), and didn’t see the rectangle with a few days. I’m not seeing it on GNOME 46 either, and I’m not sure if I even have it (if it’s there it’s properly hidden :stuck_out_tongue: )

Is there a common cause I wonder? I have Intel UHD 630 graphics. Does it only affect upgrades? I installed F40 KDE and GNOME clean.

I encountered the same issue after upgrading to Nobara 40. I was able to remove the package to fix the issue. Hopefully that doesn’t bit me in the butt later…

It seems that none of the maintainers have taken care of our matter yet, even though the same problem keeps being reported from a variety of directions.

dnf list xwaylandvideobridge
> xwaylandvideobridge.x86_64 0.4.0-5.fc40 updates

This is still the same version as when I first reported the error. Very unfortunate.

youri (Youri) July 30, 2024, 11:38am 17

I recently installed Fedora 40 Workstation (so with Gnome as DE), no problem. I then installed KDE Plasma per the Fedora wiki instructions :
dnf install @kde-desktop-environment

And subsequently the white rectangle showed up (still without switching from Gnome to KDE).

dnf remove xwaylandvideobridge got rid of the white rectangle.

I can only repeat myself. It furthermore seems that none of the maintainers have taken care of our matter yet, even though the same problem keeps being reported from a variety of directions.

youri (Youri) July 30, 2024, 7:57pm 19

I’ve also commented on the linked bug report.

I hope for whoever this causes real problems, this is not one of those Mozilla Thunderbird “forever” bugs. There are a couple bugs I’m watching there, that were first reported something like 20+ years ago

huscape (hu) August 15, 2024, 7:07am 20

… the problem still exists unchanged. dnf list xwaylandvideobridge shows an unchanged version number (xwaylandvideobridge.x86_64, 0.4.0-5.fc40, updates) and the white rectangle still appears…
