Sluggish gui running some xwayland apps (ardour, gimp) (original) (raw)

Hello,

i’m running

Fedora 40 Silverblue
12th Gen Intel i5-12400F
AMD ATI Radeon RX 6800

somehow some X11 applications became unusable after upgrading my system.
I was running Version 40.20240604.0 for quite a long time, where everything worked as expected. At least since Version 40.20240822.0 Mixbus32C, Ardour, Gimp maybe more applications running under Xwayland started to become extremely sluggish. Opening a gimp project, selecting a tool, meters and gui in ardour and so on have a massive lag and are stuttering like hell, making it impossible to work.
At first I thought maybe a layered package was the cause but after resetting my image via rpm-ostree reset the problem still persists running a wayland session. When I run gnome under X11 everything is fine, so I assume there might be a problem with Xwayland maybe?
Any help is greaty appreciated, please let me know if you need more informations.

Thank you very much!

I believe this is a kernel issue, unfortunately it hasn’t been fixed yet. I’ve worked around the issue by installing GIMP 3 from the gnome-nightly flatpak.
