- 🚢 Decarbonizing Shipping 🌍 Did you know that shipping contributes to 3% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions? It's time for change, and the shipping industry is taking action. At COP29 Azerbaijan, over 50 global maritime leaders joined forces to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon fuels. The joint statement calls for faster and bolder action to increase low-carbon fuel uptake, investment in zero-emissions vessels, and global development of green hydrogen infrastructure, leaving no country behind. But how do we make this transition happen? - 📢 Exciting news! We’re proud to announce our partnership with Refinaria Riograndense to provide technology for one of Brazil's first commercial-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production plants. 🌱✈️ Here are the key highlights: 🔹 Refinaria Riograndense, located in Rio Grande, Brazil, aims to produce 16,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel and SAF. 🔹 Once operational, Topsoe's technology will expectedly enable the plant to avoid over 1.2 million tonnes of CO2e emissions annually, equivalent to the emissions from more than 240,000 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven for a year. 🔹 The plant is set to be operational in the first half of 2028. Our CCO Elena Scaltritti says: “With Brazil setting ambitious airline emissions reduction targets in October this year, Riograndense is one of the country’s early movers to ensure SAF supply is available for airline operators on-time. - Today, in the presence of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, His Majesty King Frederik of Denmark, Dutch Minister for Climate and Green Growth, Sophie Hermans, and Danish Minister for Climate, Energy, and Utilities, Lars Aagaard, we joined a collaborative effort between Danish green hydrogen producers and suppliers and the Dutch industrial offtake market by signing a declaration at the Dutch-Danish Forum on Hydrogen Cooperation in Copenhagen. Signatories are committed to developing a world-leading green hydrogen cluster in Northwest Europe based on industry-leading offtakers, domestic production and green import corridors. 👑 It was a pleasure welcoming His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark and His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of The Royal House of the Netherlands, to Topsoe HQ. King Willem-Alexander was on a working visit to Denmark with the aim of expanding cooperation between the two countries. As green hydrogen and related infrastructure was on the agenda, our SOEC electrolyzer test center was the ideal location for knowledge sharing and to experience state-of-the-art technology supporting the green hydrogen economy. Thank you to the two Majesties for visiting us and learning more about our technology and dedication to innovation. - 🌍🔋 Europe’s leadership in electrolyser technologies: What's next? We’re proud to share that Sundus Cordelia Ramli, Chief Commercial Officer for Power-to-X at Topsoe, spoke at Renewable Hydrogen Summit in a key panel on Europe’s role in the global electrolyzer industry. Today nine out of the fifteen leading global electrolyzer manufacturers are based in Europe. But global competition seriously threatens Europe’s position in this strategically important technology and it’s crucial to ensure Europe remains at the forefront of innovation and sustainability. - Paving the way for renewable hydrogen 🌎 EDP and Topsoe have been appointed as the Co-Chairs of the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition! Starting in January 2025, Kim Hedegaard, our CEO of Power-to-X and Ana Quelhas, Managing Director at EDP will take over the leadership of the coalition from the current co-chairs, Olivia Breese, CEO Region Europe at Ørsted, and Håkon Volldal, President and CEO at Nel Hydrogen, who will be stepping down at the end of this year. As Co-Chairs, Ana and Kim will collaborate closely with the members and supporters of the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition to shape and implement initiatives that promote the role of renewable hydrogen in the global energy transition. Kim says: The EU has strong targets for renewable hydrogen deployment, but we need to ready our tools to scale up European manufacturing and strengthen Europe’s industrial leadership in strategic electrolyser technologies.
