Pricing is based on the number of resource evaluations performed per billing account each month.
A resource evaluation is the validation of a single resource (such as VM instance, persistent disk, or VPC) against a single best-practice rule defined in a policy.
For example, validating 10 VM instances against 10 rules equals 100 resource evaluations.
Pricing tiers
Note: This new tiered pricing is a reduction from the previous model and takes effect automatically. No action is required for existing customers, and this change does not impact your existing evaluations.
Pricing for resource evaluations is calculated based on graduated tiers. Usage is aggregated across all projects under a single billing account. The first 5,000 resource evaluations each month are free.

The total volume of evaluations resets to zero on the first of every month.

Example 1: Free tier usage
This example demonstrates the billing calculation for a customer who uses 4,500 resource evaluations in a single billing month
Tier 1 (Free):
- Evaluations: First 4,500 (within the 5,000 free tier)
- Cost: $0.00

Example 2: Mid-tier usage
This example demonstrates the billing calculation for a customer who uses 150,000 resource evaluations in a single billing month
Tier 1 (Free):
- Evaluations: First 5,000
- Cost: $0.00
Tier 2 ($0.0010):
- Evaluations: Next 95,000 (from 5,001 to 100,000)
- Calculation: 95,000 × $0.0010
- Cost: $95.00
Tier 3 ($0.0008):
- Evaluations: Remaining 50,000 (from 100,001 to 150,000)
- Calculation: 50,000 × $0.0008
- Cost: $40.00
Total monthly cost: 0.00+0.00 + 0.00+95.00 + 40.00=40.00 = 40.00=135.00
Example 3: High-tier usage
This example demonstrates the billing calculation for a customer who uses 650,000 resource evaluations in a single billing month.
The total cost is calculated by multiplying the price of each tier by the number of evaluations within that tier, and then adding those results.
Tier 1 (Free):
- Evaluations: First 5,000
- Cost: $0.00
Tier 2 ($0.0010):
- Evaluations: Next 95,000 (from 5,001 to 100,000)
- Calculation: 95,000 × $0.0010
- Cost: $95.00
Tier 3 ($0.0008):
- Evaluations: Next 400,000 (from 100,001 to 500,000)
- Calculation: 400,000 × $0.0008
- Cost: $320.00
Tier 4 ($0.0005):
- Evaluations: Remaining 150,000 (all evaluations over 500,000)
- Calculation: 150,000 × $0.0005
- Cost: $75.00
Total monthly cost: 0.00+0.00 + 0.00+95.00 + 320.00+320.00 + 320.00+75.00 = $490.00
Workload validation for SAP
Workload Manager can also be used to validate your SAP workloads against SAP and Google Cloud best practices. These validations are also priced as resource evaluations and follow the same tiered pricing model described above.
How evaluations are billed
What's not charged
Using Workload Manager itself incurs no fee. You are only charged for the resource evaluations performed, subject to the free tier. The free tier of 5,000 resource evaluations per month is designed to cover small-scale usage and testing.
Successful and applicable evaluations only
Workload Manager only charges for evaluations that are successfully executed and applicable to the resource.
- Successful execution: In the event a rule evaluation does not complete or encounters an error, you are not charged for that evaluation.
- Applicable resources: Workload Manager automatically detects which resources are in scope for each rule. It does not execute or charge for rule evaluations against non-applicable resources. For example, a rule for SAP HANA is not executed against an SAP NetWeaver VM; therefore, you are only charged when a rule is applicable to a resource within the scope selected.
Other Google Cloud resources
The resources that Workload Manager evaluates (such as Compute Engine VMs, Persistent Disk, or VPC) are billed separately at their own rates.
