Star Streams and Galactic Structure (original) (raw)
NASA/ADS
Abstract
The Solar Circle Star Stream contains three stellar groups and the HR 1614 supercluster with ages (and heavy element abundances) of 4 giga years ([Fe/H]=0.1), 10 giga years ([Fe/H]∼-0.5), and 15 giga years ([Fe/H]∼-1.5). The velocity dispersions (U,W), are 15 km/s at 4 giga years, 36 km/s at 10 giga years, and 75 km/s at 15 giga years. These velocity dispersions over the whole range of group velocities are J (U, W)∼0.25 V velocity. Possible effects of star streams on concepts of galactic structure are discussed and the stellar content of Stream II (the Sirius supercluster) is also reviewed.
