Journal overview:
Aims and Scope
Published by the American Mathematical Society since 1950, Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society is devoted to shorter research articles (not to exceed 15 printed pages) in all areas of pure and applied mathematics. To be published in the Proceedings, a paper must be correct, new, and significant. Further, it must be well written and of interest to a substantial number of mathematicians. Piecemeal results, such as an inconclusive step toward an unproved major theorem or a minor variation on a known result, are in general not acceptable for publication. Longer papers may be submitted to the Transactions of the American Mathematical Society. Published pages are the same size as those generated in the style files provided for AMS-LaTeX.
Peer Review
All articles appearing in this journal are peer reviewed by external reviewers. Editors may reject papers without external review that are not suitable for publication in the journal due to reasons such as subject matter or clear weaknesses in the scientific content or presentation style.
Proceedings of the AMS has adopted a double-anonymous peer-review model in which both authors and referees of a given article remain anonymous to each other. Questions about the initial submission process should be directed to [email protected].
Submission information:
Information can be found on the journal's Submission for Peer Review page. Please note that authors are limited to three submissions within any 12-month period.
Digitized archive:
The AMS Journals Digitization Project has established a complete digital archive of the back issues of the Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society from 1950 to 1995. All of these back issues are freely available electronically with fully searchable content. The digitization of the back issues of the Proceedings was made possible through the generous support of an anonymous donor. To access this material click on "All Issues: 1950-Present."
Copying and reprinting:
Individual readers of this publication, and nonprofit libraries acting for them, are permitted to make fair use of the material, such as to copy an article for use in teaching or research. Permission is granted to quote brief passages from this publication in reviews, provided the customary acknowledgment of the source is given.
Republication, systematic copying, or multiple reproduction of any material in this publication is permitted only under license from the American Mathematical Society. Requests for permission to reuse portions of AMS publication content are handled by the Copyright Clearance Center. For more information, please visit our page on requesting permissions for AMS journal and book content.
Excluded from these provisions is material for which the author holds copyright. In such cases, requests for permission to reuse or reprint material should be addressed directly to the author(s). Copyright ownership is indicated in the notice in the lower right-hand corner of the first page of each article.
Publishing cycle:
Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society is published monthly with articles electronically published individually to the AMS website before appearing in an issue. Proceedings is also accessible electronically from the Proceedings of the AMS landing page.
Indexing and archiving notes:
This journal is indexed in Mathematical Reviews®, Zentralblatt MATH, Science Citation Index®, Science Citation Index—Expanded, ISI Alerting Services, CompuMath Citation Index®, and Current Contents®, Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences. This journal is archived in Portico and in CLOCKSS.
Subscriptions:
Visit the Subscriber Info page for information on how to subscribe to AMS journals.
Offprint information:
Offprints are provided free of charge in electronic form to all authors. A downloadable and printable PDF version of each article is available from the AMS website following print publication. Notification email containing access information is sent to all authors as soon as an issue is published in print. This electronic delivery system provides authors with permanent electronic access to their published material.
Inquiries:
Any inquiries concerning a paper that has been accepted for publication that cannot be answered via the manuscript tracking system should be sent by email or by postal mail to the Electronic PrePress Department, American Mathematical Society, 201 Charles Street, Providence, RI 02904-2213 USA.
The Editorial Board
This Editorial Board manages peer review for both Proceedings of the AMS and Proceedings of the AMS, Series B. The AMS uses Centralized Manuscript Processing for initial submissions to AMS journals. Authors should follow instructions listed on the initial submission for peer review page.

Submission
All articles submitted to this journal are peer-reviewed. Proceedings of the AMS has a double anonymous peer review process in which both authors and referees of a given article remain anonymous to each other. Questions about the initial submission process should be directed to [email protected]. The AMS uses Centralized Manuscript Processing for initial submissions to AMS journals. Papers submitted to Proceedings of the AMS (to be published in either Proceedings of the AMS or Proceedings of the AMS, Series B) may not exceed 15 printed pages. The preferred method of submission is to upload a PDF file using the Initial Manuscript Submission form. Authors are limited to three submissions to Proceedings of the AMS within any 12-month period.
An alternate method is to send one copy of the paper to the following address:
Centralized Manuscript Processing
PROCEEDINGS OF THE AMS
201 Charles Street
Providence, Rhode Island
02904-2213 USA
If a paper copy is being forwarded to the AMS, the following information is required with the submission (note that all contact information, particularly email addresses, must be supplied to avoid delay):
- Name of the journal to which the paper is submitted
- Name of the corresponding author
- Contact information including email address and mailing address
- The author should suggest an appropriate Editor to review the paper
No paper that has been previously published, or is being considered for publication elsewhere, should be submitted to the American Mathematical Society, nor may a paper that is under consideration by the American Mathematical Society be submitted elsewhere.
Included with the footnotes to the paper should be the 2020 Mathematics Subject Classification representing the primary and secondary subjects of the article.
The AMS Author Resource Center provides TeX Resources, the AMS Style Guide, the Mathematics Subject Classification, and further useful tools for preparing your manuscript. Journal abbreviations used in bibliographies are available for download.
After Acceptance
Once a paper has been accepted for publication, authors should follow the online Submission Instructions.
All authors must submit the Consent to Publish. All authors must agree regarding the Copyright Agreement. If the article is to be published in one of the AMS Open Access journals, authors must agree which Creative Commons License will be selected. Authors are encouraged to use AMS-prepared style files in preparing their papers.
