Description

This dataset is part of the database compiled as an outcome of Work Area 1 in project OrganicYieldsUP. Variable definitions can be found here: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15276082

This dataset is a subset of the PROMISE (Sustainable protein supply with species mixtures in Switzerland) project and focuses on grain yield and protein content of pea (Pisum sativum L.) and barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivated in both pure and mixed cropping systems. Data were collected across two field sites in Switzerland over several growing seasons, representing diverse environmental conditions. The sub-dataset captures the performance of different pea ideotypes in terms of productivity and protein content, key indicators for the viability of legume-based cropping systems. This data provides a focused resource for analysing the agronomic potential and trade-offs of mixed versus pure cropping, with relevance for breeding, management, and plant-based protein production. This dataset supports research into sustainable legume intensification strategies and the optimisation of crop mixtures to enhance food security and soil fertility in organic farming systems.
