01:21 pm - Utøya shootinghttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Norway_attacks#Ut.C3.B8ya_shootingI don't really have anything to say. I have a ton of Norwegian friends, my heart goes out to them. 85 kids dead in a holiday camp shooting, the bomb at the government building in Oslo was a decoy. The island of Utøya is tiny, there would have been nowhere to hide.

**11:29 pm - Restoring my faith in humanity . . .**Just almost ran out of petrol, made it to Barnawartha but the petrol station was out of petrol, and the young guy running it had just closed up, but drove home to get his Jerry can and gave me enough to get to Albury. Refused my attempt to overpay, but accepted $20 and some nice chocolate. Quite restored my faith in humanity!

**10:38 pm - 3 months in Canberra**This place is great actually. Lacking in awesome cocktail bars, awesome dumpling places and my awesome friends (well, I have some awesome friends here, but not the critical mass I do elsewhere). The good: - job's going great, I've passed my probationary period, had some really speculative design work approved of by senior management at the publisher, and generally been making a go of it - my new apartment is lovely, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 balconies, 2 car spaces, huge living area. Can only just afford it, but that's ok. - the city itself is really friendly to the lifestyle I want, with great cycling, decent weather, a gym close to work, enough decent pubs around (I really like the Wig and Pen) - best brunch place EVER is 300m from my house. I am not kidding, even a little bit . . .The bad: - had my heart broken once already (fast work, I know), but the worst of that's behind me - had my car rear-ended by a taxi when I visited Sydney, but it's being repaired by AAMI - had the lights, cycling computer and water bottle stolen off my bike, locked in the secure underground carpark at my apartment building yesterday, but it was cheap stuff for exactly this reason (the bike's expensive) - spent a huge amount of money ( re-buying stuff to replace the stuff I sold when I moved to Norway :/ ) - I really miss Norway, and the friends I made thereRandom photo from my balcony:More photos on Facebook . . .

**04:19 pm - Drat**Seems like I'm not going to get to NaNoWriMo this year after all. Something's come up.OTOH I talked to my friend Luke about collaborating on a scifi novella and he seems keen, so that'd be cool!In other news, didn't manage to sleep at ALL last night. It's a weird feeling being this tired. Also, got bored of lying in bed around 5 and went to work. Set off the alarm, because it turns out my alarm code doesn't work. Haha. Still, got a hell of a lot done in the 2 hours before other people showed up.

**10:58 pm - Exercise overload**Umm.So, those of you who know me well remember that I'm not sporty at _all_. I've generally been very sedentary, aside from the cross country skiing in Winter in Norway, and some cycling before I moved to Sydney (i.e. 6 years ago).It should therefore really surprise you to find that my exercise going forward is looking to be:Cycling to and from work daily (6.5km each way)Basketball on Tuesday lunchSoccer on Thursday lunch40 minute weights workout Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunchI've also committed to trying Capoeira again, and am going to end up doing something like a 30km cycle with anthropic_mind every couple of weeks. On the one hand, it's great that this company supports employees exercising so well (they actually contribute towards either a gym membership or private health insurance), and that the city's so well built for cycling. On the other hand, WTF is going on with me? And is it good? I have no idea. I may not be able to keep up the bball and soccer, my knees are likely to fuck up if I try. Also, I tried my first deadlift and bench press today. They were pretty good, but scary. Seems like with bad technique I could really injure myself if I end up doing much more weight, as compared to the weight machines I usually use, which are pretty hard to screw up I think. If anyone's interested, I was doing: 70kg deadlift, 40kg bench press. Also chinups, but I can only do 2 without assistance (I do weigh 92kg or so though, I either need to get a LOT stronger or lose a bit of weight).nadz0r knows the allure of sweet fucking guns. These are coming along nicely. Which is hilarious.

'The Usual Suspects' (Bryan Singer)4. 'Army of Darkness' (Sam Raimi)5. 'American Pie' (Paul & Chris Weitz) - but you don't have to think it's in any way redeeming ;-)6. 'The Princess Bride' (Rob Reiner)7. 'Blade Runner' (Ridley Scott)8. 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' (Steven Spielberg)9. 'The Incredibles' (Brad Bird)10. 'Chocolat' (Lesse Halstrom)But actually, I feel as passionately if not moreso about a handful of TV shows, so, I'm extending it accordingly1. 'Cowboy Bebop'2. 'Better Off Ted'3. 'Jonathan Creek'4. 'Yes Minister'5. 'Entourage'6. 'Kitchen Confidential' - oh yes! Food Porn!Mm. That's better.
