laciryl wanted a description of how the concert went. so here's what i wrote on the day of may 29th, 2004...
The concert was just amazing. It was unbelievable, it falls between my love for Alan, and my love for Shrek 2-- which makes it pretty damn special.
Theivery Corporation was the opening act. I've never heard of them before but they were a really mellow band at first. 2 ladies sang, they were really good... it was like the type of music that you hear in posh clothing stores... not like the high class expensive places, but the almost vintage looking expensive places. It was really cool. They had a guy playing the sitar, and these 2 other Jamaican guys came out and brought the hip hop/reggae into it. Oh it was sooo good. It was funny though, b/c the guitarist was a brown guy, but the sitar player was a white guy. Teehee, I noticed it. It was awesome... the show started around 730.
THEROOTS! Omigod, I'm at a loss for words. They were almost too amazing. I've never really been a religious listener of them, but now I will be. This concert blew me away. No special effects, no background dancers... Just them, the band. Most of their tracks were from their LP: Phrenology, but then they started adding in little tunes like Superfreak, that favorite things song from the Sound of Music, and chopsticks. It was just a rush of music remixed into their own. And they mended it into their own songs. I kept thinking the concert was over, but it went well on till about 11. The whole concert just blew me away. One of the "special guests" Skillz (he's friggen hot) he did a really good job. I believe he said something about a "Justin Timberlake attraction; but now he's fucking Janet Jackson" something along those lines. They played my favorite song... had a guy on precusions... they did this 2 man drum thing, where it was 2 guys (?uestLove & the dude on precusions) on one drum alternating. Ben (aka Captain Kirk)did this Jimi Hendrix tribute that made me almost want to rape him. He had the whole 'guitar in the air strummin, using his tongue' thing going on. Hub was just friggen hilarious, he had a cigar in his mouth the whole time and had funny facial expressions. Holy shit, it was just amazing. AHHH i can't even put it all into words. The dancing was good (from the band) They did a whole bunch of cuts from hip hop songs out now... Skillz pretended to be Usher. It was sexy.
