Hello!I am going to be Friday the proud mother of a 8 week old baby named Layla. She will be arriving by plan around 12 and I cant wait! I have never been blessed with a small dog before so this will be a first for me. I also have a 1 1/2 year old cali cat named Cloe who is in fact the Queen of the house. She has always been alone so this will be new all the way around.

My Bean Bean. Any tips on how to get an elderly chi to lose weight? He weighs 12 lbs 8 oz, the vet said he should weigh 9, max. The vet also said it is likely he put on so much weight because he may not have been fed enough with his original owners.

Why dogs don't live longer than people ~Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a Ten-year- old Irish wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle.I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on.Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I 'd never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life-- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

So as you all might of noticed, we had another male coming. I found out a retired couple from Seattle was on the waiting list (the breeder) for one exactly like that. They had a 6 yr old male that had the same coat as his and someone spilled antifreez and..well yeah. So I told my breeder to let them have the little male and we would take the longcoat 3 1/2 week old male she has. Who looks like this Image and video hosting by TinyPicI would post the other pictures I have of him but they are huge so I wont pop your eyes out with huge pictures. So what do you guys think? What should I name him?

Roxy loves to smooch Remo. Remo isn't too excited about it. He doesn't know what to think of this big oaf either... Over all he handles the big dogs very well. He must have come from a place where there were large dogs.

Hello all!I have a question for you chi owners. Do any of you use a raw diet? Do you have a website or link you can refer me to for more information?Remo is beyond picky. I am finding it very difficult to give him things he will like, while still making sure he is getting the nutrients he needs. Of course, he owuld probably be content eating cheetos and ice cream, but of course that's not even an option I'm giving him.Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know about you guys but I'm one of those people who thinks that when a dog is mean it's because of the owners, but in this case, I disagree because it's our dog lol. So I'm curious, are your chihuahuas nice to everyone or only you and whoever you live with? Paco only likes my grandparents and I. Everyone else better watch their ankles! I don't understand why he's like this either! Any input?

Well it's time to update! I saved a puppy Chihuahua, twice!! One from the rescue AND two from the BAD people AT the rescue!! His name is Chester Paws (I got his first name from Linkin Park's lead singer and middle name because he's paws are huge!) He was born Dec 26th, 2005 and I picked him up Feb 20th, 2006 before 12 pm. If you do the math he's actually 6 days away from being 8 weeks old. I was TOLD that we was 8 weeks on Feb 17th, 2006. They are liars over there. The place looked really, REALLY crappy aka dirty. I hurried the process and got him in the car on our way home. We had a 50 plus miles to drive home, part way home he start throwing up. I got him home and tried to feed him....no go. Tried to get him to drink some water...no go. Finally around 2:30 pm I thought I should run him over to the vet just in case. I WAS going to take him in by appointment that week just to have him checked over, but had to go in early. I was given food and told if he doesn't eat or you think he's doing worse take him to an Emergency hospital. Well long story short he got worse so we took him in that ran test and kept him over night. I picked him up Tuesday morning from the 911 hospital, ran him over to my vet, and left him there till 3:30pm. So he finally came home Tuesday evening and he's slowly doing better. In fact he ate on his own today! I'm going to take him in tomorrow early again...I hope they take out his I. V. He HATES it. So far I donated 150to"buy"him...andIhavespentOVER150 to "buy" him...and I have spent OVER 150to"buy"him...andIhavespentOVER800 in vet bill in the three days I've owned him. AND I'm home on surgery leave of my own!!! Ahhhhh.Onward to the pics!!! ( chester cute-nessCollapse )

A brief re-introduction of sorts, this is my story. I have wanted a chihuahua for years. I haven't been in the position to get one for one reason or another. I have been in the right living, and financial, position for the past 3 years. I just knew that the right dog would come to me. I have had many near misses with becoming a chihuahua owner. Everyone was heartbreaking when it fell through. I volunteer at the animal shelter locally here. We never EVER get chis. Maybe one every few months, and they are always adopted right away. I was cruising around on petfinder, and I spotted a really cute one. He was at the shelter I volunteer at and I nearly fell out of my chair! I figured I'd give it a day and surely he would be adopted. I even drove twice to see him, just to turn back each time. Today, almost without any thought, I got in my car and just WENT. On the way I called and asked if he was still there. The lady said "amazingly yes". He is now mine! He goes to get fixed tomorrow, then I get him tomorrow afternoon. Here is a picture for reference. It's a shelter picture, so it doesn't show how truly adorable he is. His age is estimated at 11 years. He was left in the dropbox with no info!! Poor guy. They had his name as "Pulga". I'm going to change it, since they had no info, and he doesn't respond to it anyway. He is very laid back, friendly, and gets along with other dogs, even big ones. I cried when I held him, cried when I called my boyfriend about him, cried when I wrote the check... it was a sorry scene! But I am so happy there are no words. My birthday (which was Jan 26th) was the worst I have had, and it's just been downhill from there. I desperately needed something like this to brighten me up! I just can't wait to get him home!

So I've filled out the adoption forms and waiting for call backs. I REALLY wanna save a chihuahua. I still have lots of love to give and Princess knew that. I need to have another lovely baby around. Soooooo. I wanna ask a question if I may. I've only owned and raised a female dog for 17 years. Can anyone tell me if raising a male dog is that "difficult or challenging?" I want to do what is right for the dog. I just want to know if I'd be biting off more than I can chew by saying I'll take male or female.Help?

Has anyone's Chi ever......gotten aroused by someone's perfume? My little fella is NOT the type to hump everyone that comes in the door...but this one friend of mine, he's always licking her and trying to hump her arm. He NEVER does this to anyone but her. She doesn't have any pets so there's no "animal in heat" scent that would be on her to make him do this.Anyone have a chi that just liked someone's perfume a LITTLE TOO much?

I was referred to this community by jordan23 . Thank goodness. I am, hopefully, soon going to be the owner of a chi puppy. I have wanted one for about four years, done a lot of reading up on the breed, and looking forward to being owned by a chi. I am excited about this community, and look forward to meeting you and all of your chis!
