Free Comic Book Day 2020! – Drawn & Quarterly (original) (raw)
We are so excited to share D+Q’s 2020 Free Comic Book Day contribution! This year, we are releasing TWO silver level FCBD issues: Manhwa: Contemporary Korean Comics and Little Lulu: No Boys Allowed.
Manhwa: Contemporary Korean Comics features the best of the contemporary Korean manhwa scene. This FCBD sampler spotlights Yeon-sik Hong’s family saga Umma’s Table, Keum Suk Gendry-Kim’s biography of a Korean “comfort woman” Grass, Ancco’s story of female friendship Bad Friends, and Yeong-shin Ma’s examination of middle-aged women Moms. The Korean comics industry is rich and diverse and was virtually unexplored in North America until D+Q’s release of Yeon-sik Hong’s masterful Uncomfortably Happily in 2017, translated by indie cartoonist superstar Hellen Jo. Since then, D+Q has enlisted the services of award-winning translator Janet Hong to become the leading English publisher of manhwa.
In our second FCBD, Little Lulu: No Boys Allowed!, Lulu Moppet is back with even more outlandish adventures and misadventures, as the cartoonist John Stanley settles into kooky and entertaining suburban storylines starring Lulu, Tubby, Alvin, and the rest of the beloved gang.
These two comics are a great way to get acquainted with our Little Lulu best-of series (Little Lulu: The Fuzzythingus Poopie is in stores August 2020!), and our upcoming Korean comics: Yeon-Sik Hong’s Umma’s Table (March 2020), and Yeong-Shin Ma’s Moms (June 2020).
Free Comic Book Day takes place Saturday, May 2nd at a comic book shop near you! For more details and to check out the other 2020 Free Comic Book Day offerings head over to the FCBD website.
