The rapid growth of India’s urban population has put enormous strains on urban transport systems.... more The rapid growth of India’s urban population has put enormous strains on urban transport systems. During the last few decades, more cars, congestion, and the related urban transport problem arise. There are many issues related to safety and security especially for women, children, disabled, and senior citizens. People often have a problem in starting their trip, i.e., from their home. These difficulties do not lie in the main transport network but in the available options that a person has beyond his residence to reach the station located at main transport network. This paper is an attempt to identify the issues related to last mile connectivity at various metro stations of Delhi, to examine the constraints in ensuring last mile connectivity and to suggests measures to improve last mile connectivity in the selected case study stations with the help of various information- and communication-based solutions. Various ICT-based solutions have been suggested in this paper which will help to improve the last mile connectivity for smart mobility in Indian cities.

During the last few decades, more cars, congestion and related urban transport problem arise and increasing crime is also important thread for the society. Providing best local connectivity options can reduces the cases of various transport related issues and also helps in the prevention of crime. Transit Oriented Development is such an approach through which local connectivity can be improved.This paper is an attempt to understand the existing local connectivity issues in the selected case study stations. For understanding the existing local connectivity issues, four Delhi metro stations (Saket, INA,Vishwavidyalaya and Sultanpur) that falls with mid, high and low ridership with residential, institutional and mixed landuse were selected. Due to exorbitant migration in urban areas in the last few decades, increasing vehicle ownerships... more Due to exorbitant migration in urban areas in the last few decades, increasing vehicle ownerships, traffic congestion and rising extreme air pollution have resulted more and more cities in India to opt for various mass rapid transit systems such as metro rail, mono rail and BRT systems etc. But cities still faces the problem of last mile connectivity. Most of the cities don’t have proper last mile connectivity facilities. First mile/last mile connections are made in a number of ways, these include: walking, bicycling, private automobile, metro feeder, bus service local bus, E-rickshaw, cycle rickshaw and auto rickshaw. During the most recent couple of years, the noble Coronavirus held the world by a threat that caused huge financial mishaps and loss of lives. Simultaneously, the extreme weather events kept on adding to the outrageous climate crisis. To mitigate the effect of climate change, the entire world met up and made various commitments made in various UN conventions, culminating in the Paris Convention to both implement mitigation and adaptation measures to reduce the emissions. The Sustainable Development Goals plan was recognized by all individuals from the United Nations in 2012 at Rio De Janeiro with an expect to propel a sound and created future for the planet and its people. It was in 2015 the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were embraced with 17 goals; with SDGs Goal No.13 addressing earnest activities to combat climate change and its impact in all topographical elements including arid areas.
