Need advice on ripping DVDs to my Computer HD & another question I'm building a HTPC, and have a bunch of TV Shows and Movies downloaded on my Hard Drive.

I also want to put my DVDs on the Hard Drive as well , so I can access everything right from my couch.

Whats the best Free program I can download to just rip from DVD to computer? I'm not really worried about making DVD backups or anything, that takes way too long.

Also, i downloaded a Torrent Movie and one of of them, when I downloaded it came in 2 separate files.

Is there a way to combine these 2 files into one movie file?

Thanks!

Hi!

I don't know if this is an inapropriate question, but I couldn't find somewhere better to ask. The thing is that I've got a problem with burning .avi files onto a dvd-disc. I don't know what it is that I do wrong, but it never works. I've got a XP so it's not the computer that's the problem, I think it's the program I'm using. Or possibly the discs.

Can anybody help me? How do you do it?

Thankfull for help :)

Newbie - How To?

Hi,

I'm a newbie to dvdripping. I've bought a dvd burner, and the software that I got with it is Nero 7 that's a two month trial (go figure).

I have no idea what I'm doing, but I do know what I want to do, and that is this...

I would like to transfer my dvd's to my ipod nano 3rd generation. Movies that I can't even get on itunes. I would like to convert the dvd's to ipod format or at least avi format. If I can get it avi format then I have another program that I can convert it to ipod format. TMI right? So... I'm looking to find out what software I need to transfer dvd to computer, from computer to avi or ipod format.

Can I do that? If so, could someone please, please tell me what I need... explain, and honestly... I'm looking for software that doesn't have a limit time of use.

Thanks for your time!

Divx Symbol Removal I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this or not. A year or so ago, I saw somewhere where you could remove the Divx symbol from the bottom of your ripped clips. I use DVD to AVI and VirtualDub and I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove the symbol? I think it involved going into the program somehow and altering the coding or something. Would be really appreciative for any help.

Regions Hi guys, this is my first post here. Im such a noob with dvd burning.

I am testing on my laptop to burn DVD's. My desktop can burn a DVD perfectly fine using 1Click DVD Copy & DVD43 decrypter together. When I put the same DVD into my laptop burner, using the same programs, I get an error with DVD43 decrypter saying something about the region not matching.

Now I don't know anything about dvd drives and the hardware side of it, but I suspect the DVD burner might have been made to suit a different country? Is that possible? Can anyone help?

Problem.. I recently bought the Tori Amos video collection, Fade To Red, from iTunes. I wasn't aware that iTunes wouldn't let me burn the vids to a DVD, only the data for backup.
Since I did pay a lot of money for them already, I just downloaded the collection from a torrent, so I could put it on DVD. Problem is, I have all these files now and I don't know how to burn them. I extracted the files I got, and they're all VOB, BUP, and IFO files. I can play the DVD here on my computer, but when I try to add all the files to a DVD burning program, it says it doesn't support some of the files. Can someone tell me how I would go about making this DVD?

Avi to DVD Hello all,
I'm new and just have these questions:

I have a bunch of movies on my computer in .avi format and want to burn them onto 4.7 Gb DVDs. Which I found out isn't enough room. Is there a way to shrink the size without affecting the quality too much? Or am I supposed to put them in a special format so they can play on my DVD players? I've heard of WinAvi, and well, I don't want to shell out the cash if there is another method! Thanks!

I have 2 DVDs. And I want to rip them to one DVD as 2 chapters. The first DVD is 3 minutes long, second - 1:42. What should I do? What about .ifo and other files?

DivX-enabled DVD Players I'm planning to buy a DVD player that can play DivX, XviD, .avi, and other formats that most other players can't play. I think I'd like to get either the Toshiba SD-3990 or the Philips DVP642.

I've been reading really conflicting opinions on both of these as to how well it actually plays DivX, and how flimsy and poor quality they are in general. I would really like more input from anyone who has either of these players. Can it handle stuff like anime with subtitles? How often do you have problems with it not playing these files correctly or at all? Will it play DVD-Rs or does it need to be DVD+R?

Also, I haven't bought a DVD player outside of DVD burners for computers in quite a long while, so sorry if this is a really stupid question, but can these DivX-enabled players only play these files on DVDs or can they also play CD-Rs with video files?

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Ripping movies for iPod? Hi! I'm a total noob to this, and I come with a really basic question. How do I rip a movie from the (store bought) DVD to my computer so that I can then put it on my iPod? File conversion's not really a problem - I've been using ffmpegx for that and it seems to recognise the most random formats, so the real issue is what software I need to rip the movie. I have a G4 iBook running Mac OS 10.3.9. Any suggestions?

Thanks! :)

pixelly and choppy Hi everyone!
I'm trying to back-up this super expensive foreign obscure DVD I just bought. I would die if it scratched and I had to find it again.

I tried to use Xillisoft DVD Ripper to output it to an .avi file with .mp3 audio attached.
When I played it back, the video was really pixellated and super choppy. Can anyone help me? What settings need to be adjusted? I left most of them on their default settings since I have no idea what I'm doing.

new! Hi everyone, I am new here.
Normally I use DVD Decrypter to rip my DVDs to my hard drive. Some of my DVDs are protected (I guess) and will not let me rip them using DVD decrypter. Normally, when I burn copies of these discs, I use DVD shrink to do so.

I can't figure out how to use DVD shrink to rip my discs to my hard drive. I have DVD shrink version 3.2. Can anyone write me a quick instructional on how to rip and then burn DVDs using only DVD shrink?

DVD Shrink not recognizing my menu ?? Okay, quick question because I've looked all over the net for people discussing exactly what you guys are right now. I've been having a terrible ordeal with my DVDs. I have DVD Shrink and I use it to rip from DVDs, except that I recently burned some episodes of a TV show onto several different discs, and each disc has 2 episodes, but when I try to get to the first episode on the disc, it doesn't show up in DVD Shrink. Furthermore, it'll say something like: Title 2 [minutes] and Title 5 [minutes] right underneath, but the two episodes will both be the same one! Does anyone know how in the world I can fix this? So far, I've been able to access about 3 out of 8 episodes :( ...

I just want to know how to do this for the sole purpose of putting them on my iPod.
Help would be awesome!
& sorry again if this is the wrong place.

Newbiew with question Hey all,
I just wanted to know how do I rip a dvd to my computer and then put it on a disk? You see a recent.. accident with one of my favourite movies meant me having to get another and I'd rather not go through that woe again. So I decided to back up my DVD's, so that next time when someone wants to burrow my DVD's they don't end up spilling something on my actual store bought copy ::grrr:: But one problem, I do not have a external DVD copier, I only have my computers DVD-R/RW drive, so I know I'll have to copy the movie to desktop and then burn it to DVD, but how do I do that?

Any help would be appreciated!

Does anyone know how i can fit more than 4 episodes on a disk? They are from a download so there is no image to load on DVD shrink...i'm lost can anyone help me?

[downgrounded]

I recently ripped a few DVDs to my hard drive using DVD Shrink 3.2, I can view the video just fine through Shrink. But the thing won't play like a DVD, it just goes straight through all the footage linearly, and I can't enable things like commentary to play. Is there a program to download to view these ripped-to-hard drive DVDs as though it was an actual DVD?

Thanks,
Dan
