On the topic of Cybermen
at August 10th, 2012 (04:17 pm)
current mood: thoughtful
I was having a discussion with my hubby the other day about Cybermen. I'm not honestly sure how the conversation came about, but we were talking about it. Anyway, he's a big Cybermen fan. I can appreciate that. I like them to. They're not a favorite monster, but they are near the top of my "fear list". He, however, likes the New series Cybermen. I've tried to. I really have. I just don't. I don't find them scary. Not like the Classic series ones, anyway. And I've never really understood why. Then it suddenly dawned on me while I was talking to hubby.
The New series Cybermen march. They stomp. They are robots, essentially. Apart from their shape, there is nothing human about them anymore. Whereas, the Classic Cybermen are scary as hell because they still move like people move. Shoot, the ones in The Tenth Planet are terrifying because you can still see noses and jaws and mostly human figures under the cybernetic paraphernalia. That, to me, is more scary than stomping robots.
IMHO

Dragoncon's Brittrack costuming panel thanks you! :)
at September 10th, 2009 (12:24 pm)
We would like to thank everyone who attended the Brittrack costume panel at Dragoncon this year. :) The Valdosta room was full, even though Terry Gilliam was scheduled opposite us. And thanks to everyone who came in costume, although we couldn't get to everyone for Show'n'Tell. Myself, the panel moderator, and Andy, head of the Prydon Academy (the DW costume parade group) are talking about a double panel, where we will spend half the time on info and Q&A, and the other half on a Fashion Show (not a Costume Contest). You can write to the Brittrack staff supporting the idea at the site: http://www.brittrack.org .
Don't forget that you can join the Prydon Academy ( we're more than just a Dragoncon parade group, but also a growing costume resource that will soon be working hand-in-hand with
dw_cosplay ) at http://www.prydonacademy.com/forum/index.php .
For those of you who want to comment in a general fashion about Dragoncon, there is this post on dragoncon for reviews and complaints.

Brittrack costume panel at Dragoncon 09
at August 24th, 2009 (12:18 pm)
current mood: excited
The British SF Media track at Dragoncon (or Brittrack, as it's nicknamed) will be hosting a panel for any and all costumers of British SF & fantasy media, whether it's Doctor Who, UFO, Blake's Seven, Robin Hood, Torchwood, The Tomorrow People, The Sarah Jane Adventures, or what have you. :)
Please attend in costume or bring a costume for presentation or just attend to pick up tips and tricks. We'll be mostly discussing costuming, but we also have an expert on the panel who has knitted many Fourth Doctor scarves. If you have knitted and/or are knitting a Fourth Doctor scarf or a Boomtown!Rose scarf, bring it along. :)
If you can attend the panel, just let us know by replying here, esp. if you are wearing or presenting a costume, let us know about the costume as well. :)
At the moment, and hopefully this will not change, the costume panel will be at 4 PM, Saturday, Sept. 5th, 2009, in the usual Brittrack place, the Valdosta Room, at the Sheraton Hotel.
Dragoncon takes place Sept. 4th - 7th, 2009, in Atlanta, GA, USA.
The Brittrack has Eric Roberts (the Master in the Doctor Who TV-movie) and Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones in Torchwood) as guests, as well as Terry Gilliam and many other wonderful guests.
See you at Dragoncon!

This will hopefully be the last Sunday that we will be meeting, and we should be back to the third Saturday of the month starting in September. :)
We meet at the Doraville Civic Center, just north of Atlanta, GA, near the intersection of I-85 N and Buford Highway. Please see the website, http://www.atlantagallifreyans.org/ , for directions. The Doraville MARTA station is half-a-block away. And, as always, please bring food and drink to share. All Doctor Who and Torchwood fans are welcome!
Schedule is under the cut.
Dragoncon's Brittrack has new guests & schedule changes
at July 24th, 2009 (05:56 pm)
current mood: pleased
There have been many changes made to the Brittrack schedule at Dragoncon in the past few days. :)
Just yesterday, Gareth David Lloyd confirmed that he is returning to Dragoncon! We have a few Torchwood panels already, and the track will be working with GDL on how best to schedule him.
Eric Roberts and his wife Eliza Roberts will be hosting a panel on Friday on how the 8th Doctor TV-movie influenced New!Who.
Terry Gilliam, the director and Monty Python animator will be at the con on Friday and Saturday only. (Yes, he has nothing to do with DW, but imagine if he directed a Doctor Who film?!)
And there may be more guest announcements to go with the great slate of guests already. Stay tuned by checking the Brittrack site for the schedule:
