The incidence ofLironeca ovalis (say (crustacea, isopoda) and its effects on the growth of white perch,Morone americana (gmelin), in the Delaware River near Artificial Island (original) (raw)

Abstract

More than 1400 white perch from the Delaware River near Artificial Island were routinely examined for_Lironeca ovalis_ (Say). When present,L. ovalis was found within the gill chamber. Of the fish examined only 24 (1.7%) were parasitized. Most of these were less than three years old. The presence of parasites apparently results in reduced growth.
