_9:21 am_[headstone] | helphelp pink! Hokay. I'm not new to dying- I prefer greens and blues but now it's time for red! HOWEVER! Halp plz ;_; A year ago I tried a burgundy color (either RAW or manic panic) and it came out bright pink. I blamed it on dying just after bleaching/using toner/washing my hair, and shrugged it off. Currently I have mostly bleached hair that is not white, but not yellow- perhaps "corn husk" color. It's been growing out all summer because I didn't want to re-bleach and dye until after my summer job. To test some reds I shampooed my hair, skipped the conditioner, towel dried, and processed dye on little parts for 2 hours (usually I'd leave it in for 6+ hrs). I did a test strand of Manic Panic's vampire red. It went in fuscia. And is even more hot-pink-fuscia after three washes, though it's still vibrant (I'll give it that). I then went out to buy RAW's Fire Red, did a test strand, and thought it was perfect! However, it washed out almost completely after one gentle shower. I really don't want to spend more money testing all the red dyes I can find, so I come to you for advice! So! Am I doing something wrong to make them pink? Do I need to skip conditioner for a week or something to make my hair more porous? And what the heck can I do about the RAW color aside from keeping some in my conditioner?x-posted to redheads_galore and red_hair_dye (Comment on this) |

_11:02 pm_[whitechristmas] | What is the best color-treated anti-fade shampoo out there? I really need your help people! I have tried Coloresse Moisture Shampoo and Miracle 7 Color Protect Shampoo and these products are not helping my hair! I suppose it is natural to leave hair scalp/roots greasy after using an anti-fade shampoo? I am sick of greasy hair after each wash and there are sooo many color protect shampoos out there; I want to know which is the best one that will not leave my hair greasy and also protect and prevent fading. My hair is red after using L'oreal Hicolor Red Hilights btw: hair glaze any good to seal in my hair color? Does it really give you an amazing shine? Thank you in advance! :) (Comment on this) |

_9:05 am_[stonelizard] | Hello, Hello! So I just took a pretty big step (for me) and dyed my hair a more natural red shade last weekend in permanent colour. While it is nice... I don't know, it is just not the same as manic! My reasoning; I have been dying everything I touch with red! Everything! from my fingernails, to my computer keyboard, the bedding, clothes, jewellery, the walls... you get the idea. I love the shade but it just runs all the time. I am about to move back to the uk and it rains there and I have images of me walking with a trail of red dye following me.I do dampen my hair every morning otherwise it would not behave. I don't use a hairdryer or much product.I am just wondering if anyone had any suggestions to prevent this running or is it just a given with semi permanent, natural dye? I have heard that a vinegar rinse straight after dying can help seal things in?Is there another dye that produces bright red but without the running?Or even better, can anyone suggest a permanent red shade that is still pretty bright and vivid? Thanks everyone! Really appreciate any answers. My red hair is really important to me! (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

I want to go all over red (a "somewhat" natural color, not Manic Panic or anything that bright) with blond chunks. These are my questions and pic of me...( Help!Collapse ) (Comment on this) |

_10:37 pm_[mellawyrden] | new person with a terrible question . . . . .My question is... what technique do you use to do your roots yourself (in permanent hair colour), in a way that doesn't stain the rest of your hair? All my life I've struggled with this problem. When I do my own roots the dye always gets on all of it. I'm either the most uncoordinated person in the world or there's some trick to this, that I don't know.In the pictures you can just barely see that my hair is red at all! It becomes so darkly stained that it looks almost black. **( Read more...Collapse )**anyway thanks for listening & I hope you can advise me! (Comment on this) |

_2:28 pm_[patsrockmybosox] | what shampoos does everyone use for their hair?i use garnier nutrisse sangria (i believe its #56) and pantene red expressions, but im looking to switch shampoos. i've tried john freida and dont really like it, but i'm a 21 yr old college student, so i would prefer drugstore/cheapish brand that will keep my color from fading!also, what other box dyes look good/dont wash out even though they're perm, etc? i have a box of my regular color so its not really a big deal but once in awhile i like to experiment with other dyes and see what they look ike :P i was looking at loreal feria ruby red i think it is, but wondering about other people's experiences.( textCollapse ) (Comment on this) |

_5:39 pm_[stonelizard] | I have had my hair a bright red colour for a few years now, but because of a new job and simply not finding the right shade I decided to bleach my hair and then turn it slightly strawberry blonde. Well, it turned out a really cool orangy shade and my boss liked it so it stayed. But I really really miss my red hair.I am getting a good four inches cut off my hair tomorrow, then I want to redye it along these lines:This is exactly what I want: http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/onblack.php?id=353354167&size=Largehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/scarlettcat/2317648999/http://www.flickr.com/photos/kitta/144692328/in/photostream/I might be brave and go bolder:http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefiejones/2331041648/http://www.flickr.com/photos/captiveinnocence/1931057538/http://www.flickr.com/photos/aymaritacita/2195249193/Also, what colours would you suggest? I was thinking SFX Cherry bomb or nuclear red, and then a really dark red or near black? But I have never ever done highlights / two tone before and I though I would ask you knowledgeable lot!So - do I dye my hair all red first, then foil the parts I wish to stay red and dye the rest black? Or do I foil the bit to be highlighted, dye the rest black and then dye the whole lot red? Would doing it either way create a red tint under the black (which I would like!)Are there different techniques to do the gentle gradient red to black and the bolder version?Help this two tone Virgin! Thanks :) (Comment on this) |

_2:41 pm_[mobiusant] | Greatest red-hair hits Ever since I was 9 and The Little Mermaid came out, I've wanted to be a redhead. Ever since I was 13, I've been dying my hair like gangbusters to achieve the "perfect" shade of red. These are in somewhat-ish chronological order, but this definitely isn't a timeline or anything! Still, image heavy, so be prepared.( It is not a habit, it is cool, I feel aliveCollapse ) Current Mood: awake (2 Comments |Comment on this) |

_10:55 pm_[sashayaki] | Recently become a redhead So~ I just started dyeing my hair with henna from hennaforhair.com in February. I'm naturally a medium/dark blonde.( Photos~Collapse )I've liked the henna but... It's a bit browner and darker than I would like. I'm trying to decide between trying again, with chamomile to make it brighter, or going for chemical dye because I loove the bright red-copper (like henna for the first couple days, before it settles). I was thinking L'Oreal Mega Red (either light intense copper or medium intense red copper) or the Red Copper HiLights... Thoughts? And yes, I know henna and chemical dyes do not mix. I'd do research about whether I can apply chemical dye if it's been a month or two since I dyed it, or a strand test at the very least. =) Just trying to figure out my future options, I'm new to permanent hair dye. I'd like it still natural-ish looking, I think. If that's possible. I'm happy this community got created at least, hehe, I've been looking up red hair dye as a procrastination method the past couple days and haven't been able to find a huge amount. _8:32 pm_[panda_parfait] | I miss my red hair ( Pictures of my beloved red hairCollapse )I miss my stop sign red hair so much but dyeing it was a bitch. Color ended up all over my bathroom and I ruined a rug and a towel. Not to mention it faded so fast that maintenance would be difficult and expensive. I'm not sure if I'll actually go back to this specific color, but I just might because I love it so much.I'm thinking I might even try a natural fiery red from a box- not sure if it would give me the same kind of thrill that Nuclear Red did.So that all being said, hello!
