For this purpose, the first section outlines the key elements referring to the role of individuals in organizational theory; then, a critical revision and interpretation of the main postulates of diverse schools are presented. As a result, it was found that the individual is present through the different schools but very often the focus is on the social relations that take place in the organization, and the organizational goals as the common goals that all members must pursue, as opposed to his individual goals and needs. This way, organizational theories display an instrumental rationality towards the topic of this paper.

The simple is composed of those companies ranked by America Economia in 2012 based on their Globalization Index, and their mission statements that were collected through corporate websites (America Economia, 2012). First, a content analysis was conducted in order to identify the presence of each mission component, and a intercoder reliability test was performed by the researchers. Then, a correlation analysis was applied between the mission components by using the phi coefficient and variance analysis (ANOVA) to test correlations between components and the Globalization Index. Results show all companies have fewer than the 9 components suggested by David (1989); there is a weak correlation among components, and there is no relation between components and the Globa...

Research paper thumbnail of Global virtual teams in education: Do peer assessments motivate student effort?

Considering the recent global pandemic, now they seem to be more the rule than an exception. Drawing on expectancy theory and using a latent growth model approach, this paper investigates the relationship between peer assessments and student individual effort to complete a given task. The analysis of these two variables as parallel processes indicates that the more abrupt the decrease in peer assessments, the steeper the positive rate of change in effort in the context of global virtual teams. This longitudinal study suggests that peer assessments are a useful and effective means to boost global virtual team members’ individual effort. The paper concludes with implications and recommendations for researchers, managers and educators who use global virtual teams in education and practice.

Research paper thumbnail of Potential: in search for meaning, theory and avenues for future research a systematic review

Using a systematic review (SR), this paper aims to present a synthesis of the extant literature. The findings of this SR indicate that there are both similar and differing viewpoints for defining potential and that, theoretically, the study of potential from the perspective of the individual is still lacking. As a result, a comprehensive definition of potential is presented. Furthermore, we recommend incorporating this perspective and formulate a conceptual model to advance in the understanding of this phenomenon.

A... more Cultural intelligence (CQ) has been regarded as a key factor in international business success. A recently validated scale, the Business Cultural Intelligence Quotient (BCIQ), refines the CQ concept by applying it exclusively to the business context. The BCIQ aims at predicting long-term cross-cultural success using a combination of CQ factors, cognitive features, and measurable independent variables (Alon et al., 2016b). Using the multigroup exploratory factor analysis approach, we found low measurement invariance for the (BCIQ) instrument across eight countries (Austria, Chile, Colombia, Greece, Philippines, Poland, Spain, and Venezuela). Global knowledge was included as a covariate in the invariance test. We found that type of performance is related to some BCIQ dimensions in our multicountry sample of professionals. Our results provide additional evidence about the construct validity of the BCIQ and its appropriateness for cross-cultural applications. By knowing that the BCIQ is...

Thus, an individual's potential represents the degree to which characteristics of employees may result in enhanced future development of a professional. By means of a longitudinal research, the authors study the effect of previous individual performance on potential and the impact of potential on future performance. A short theoretical-based measure of potential has been developed resulting in four different subdimensions of individual potential.

Consumers often seek procedures at a lower cost and good quality, motivated by lacking or insufficient insurance coverage, or because they need or wish to undertake elective surgery, cosmetic procedures or wellness services.
