“The Blue Rider” (“Der Blaue Reiter”) was a loose grouping of artists, named after the almanac first published by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc in 1912 in Munich. In 1911 and 1912 they organized two exhibitions of works by artists, who pursued similar artistic ideas to those of the two artist- editors. In 1957 the Lenbachhaus in Munich came into the possession of more than 400 artworks by Gabriele Münter and her long-time partner Wassily Kandinsky, left to it following Münter’s death.

The exhibition will feature works by the following artists: August Macke, Franz Marc, Marianne von Werefkin, Alexej von Jawlensky, Wassily Kandinsky, Heinrich Campendonk, Gabriele Münter, Paul Klee, and Alfred Kubin.
