media. Social inequality is systematically bolstered and
propagated through what are ostensibly neutral spaces for discussion and information exchange. As a result, biased and stereotypical representation of some minority groups, such
as atheists, has lead to a degree of marginalization, which has
adversely affected the quality of life of both the individuals and their respective groups. In view of that, the aim of this project will be to provide an understanding of the ways in which a particular segment from a popular cable news network represents the
atheist minority. Through applying critical discourse analysis, I will attempt to expose connotations that may negatively distort the portrayal of atheists and will extrapolate their potential impact on social perceptions. The study will be finalized in a summary defining the main conclusions drawn from the analysis and how they apply to current findings in this area.
