germansurgeon: Yo

Ah, this group is probably dead, but here we go anyways.

Where are you from? Arizona

How did you first become a Silverwing fan? Waaaay back in elementary school, I was obsessed with books about animals (still am), so my grandpa took me book shopping a lot. I saw a book, Silvering, at half price, so I picked it up. Then I was like HOLY CRAP WHERE'S THE SECOND ONE. So I read the rest of the series. Eventually, I forgot about the series until my mother came home with a book called 'Darkwing' that she thought I might like. I was like WHOA, so I recently read the series over again and fell back in love with it. C:

Why do you like Silvering? I love the fact that it's a fantasy book for kids, but it still has a ton of great information and action scenes. The mythology is also fascinating, and if you go look some stuff up, you'll find out how much of the book is based off of real life stuff and ancient civilizations. The bat species are also very accurate!

Which do you prefer, the books or the TV series? The books. By a million miles. The TV series was dreadful, and dumbed for little kids. The TV series was a sad excuse for a cartoon. The character designs were wretched too! The owls looked and sounded like hawks, and the bats had oddly colored anime-like hair.
Some of the charm of the books is that its somewhat believable, and the cartoon just ruined that.

Who/is are your favoirte character/s and why? Shade, Zephyr, Murk, Java, and Orestes. Shade, because well...he's Shade! XD He's really smart too. Zephyr, because I have a thing for albino bats. And he lived in a church, which was pretty cool. He's just an overall cool guy! Murk because I felt so bad for the poor guy. No one liked him, even after he proved his worth over and over again. He seemed pretty observant too, and his character showed that all creatures, even the Vampyrum, have hearts. Java because I love her name and personality. She is a comforting figure, and seems like a great person to know in real life. And, finally, Orestes because, like Murk, he was technically "bad", but showed that owls aren't all monsters. He seemed a bit like Shade in the fact that he was determined and curious.

Here's hoping for another Silverwing book soon!

It's unlikely anyone is still here, but I figure its worth a shot trying to holler at old fans :)

Where are you from?
Southern California

How did you first become a Silverwing fan?
Ah, well, unfortunately quite recently! I had seen the show back when it was first on and thought it was pretty neat. I knew it came from a book and made a mental note to pick up the book at some point. I kept putting it off and putting it off until earlier this year.

Why do you like Silverwing?
It is such a charming little book. I was just completely taken with it, its exactly the kind of book I look for with animal fiction. Fun, engaging, simple yet complex. I just plain loved it.

I actually haven't read the rest in the series yet :\ but I'm planning on grabbing them next time I have the chance.

Which do you prefer, the book(s) or the TV series?
The books, definitely. It's been a while since I've seen the show and I'm sure its great, but I just love the book and I love reading.

Who is/are your favourite character/s, and why?
Probably Silverwing, as cliche as it is. The first book did focus on him so, yeah XD maybe when I read the other books I'll have a new favorite, but at current its just good ol' Silverwing.

Texas, United States

Yes, I have horses. No, I don't support Bush.

How did you first become a Silverwing fan?
I saw the first two books in the Dallas Library and picked them up, read them, and forgot about them for five years. Then I had a weird dream about bats and remembered Marina, did a google search, and found them again. Then I sold them because I was moving and had no room for anything in my library, forgot them again, did another google search-- Look, why are you reading this?

Why do you like Silverwing?
I have always loved bats. When I was a little, tiny girl I'd go to sleep hoping that in the morning I'd have transformed into a bat. I also thought a second was longer than an hour -_-.
Oppel is very, very good at creating believable characters. This guy knows what he's doing! There's just so much to fall in love with, I don't know where to start. Well, he uses facts to base his stories on, but he doesn't let them get in the way or sound preachy-preachy, something that is found in classic anthromorphic books like Watership Down. He doesn't make the animals into Brian Jaques clones slapped into a new setting, I mean.
He also borrows from some of the most fasinating mythologies in ancient history, Mayan and Aztec, with Camazotz from the Popol Vuh. I'm borderline obsessed with Mayan mythology, enough to have tattoos of a few of their gods, him combining my bat and Maya obsessions pretty much sealed it in blood.
I friggin' love his books.

Which do you prefer, the book(s) or the TV series?
The books. The TV series was kind of a bastardization situation. Though, Goth had a very sexy voice actor. :D

Who is/are your favourite character/s, and why?
I love Murk, he reminds me of my crazy-like-a-fox uncle crossed with my best friend (that sounded really bad... 0_o). I also like Nemo, mainly because I thought I was the only person who thought water had a personality and I just wanted to cuddle him. *cuddle*
I love/hate Goth. He's a lot like my ex-boyfriend (who stole my Morrowind copy).

Current Mood: Talkative ^___^;;;.

I'm from St.Louis MO

I became interested in silverwing when I saw part of the movie. After some serching I found the book.

I like the book more than the movie but the movie has good depictions of the charicters

My favorite charicter is Shade. Probably because i can relate to him well. But not because of my size. I'm 6'3.

How did you first become a Silverwing fan? I've loved bats my whole life and my mom got me the book for my birthday five years ago and I fell in love with it!
Why do you like Silverwing? For one thing it has bats! I think it is written very well and I like to feel like I'm seeing the world through a bats eyes.
Which do you prefer, the book(s) or the TV series? Both, but I've only seen the first few episodes of the show.
Who is/are your favorite character/s, and why? Marina. She is spunky and doesn't let anyone push her around. I can't help but love all the rest of the bats too.

Also, I hope this is okay, but I just started a community for Bat anthros. Anyone that likes bats is welcome to join!

So just out of curiousity, what did everyone thing of '

Firewing

'. Do you think it was an insult to the originals? A worthy successor to Silverwing and Sunwing? Nothing more than a money-making scheme?

Personally, I loved Firewing. I wasn't expecting to, but was completely blown away by how well it worked it's way into the series. I loved the characters (especially the bats Shade meets). And the ending had me in tears.

So everyone else's thoughts?
