Article I Terms of Office of Elected Officials

§ 33-1 Legislative intent.

To provide constancy and greater experience in Village government, the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Islandia provides that the terms of office of the Mayor and the Village Trustees be increased from two-year terms to four-year terms pursuant to provisions of § 3-302 of the New York State Village Law.

§ 33-2 Terms of office; elections.

The terms of office of the Mayor and all Trustees of the Village Board shall be four years. General Village elections shall be held biennially in the odd-numbered years.[1]

Article II Individuals in Elected Office Employed by Village

§ 33-3 Compatibility of positions of employment and elected public officials in Village.

A.

The position of employee of the Village of Islandia and Village Trustee of the Village of Islandia are compatible in that the position as an employee of the Village of Islandia is not an appointed official as defined in § 3-300 of the Village Law and because the position of Trustee does not have a supervisory capacity of employee positions in the Village of Islandia, and there shall be no requirement that a Village of Islandia employee resign upon election as or upon serving as a Trustee of the Village, and no Village Trustee that is employed by the Village of Islandia shall be required to resign or terminate that employment in order to serve or continue to serve as a Trustee of the Village of Islandia.
