The Department of Mathematics is a division of the HSE Faculty of Economics, which brings together experts in numerical methods, differential equations, discrete mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, data analysis, operations research and game theory, decision theory.
Department lecturers teach a wide range of subjects at the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Computer Science, the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Economics, the Graduate School of Business as well as the Postgraduate School of Computer Science.

Participants of the 4th Fall into ML conference at HSE University held a discussion titled ‘Academia in Crisis: What Does the Future Hold?’ In particular, they examined why the number of scientific publications continues to grow, what the quality of these papers is, what expectations should be placed on researchers, and what role artificial intelligence plays in preparing academic articles.

The first Intervision song contest recently came to an end in Moscow. The winner was the Vietnamese entrant, Đức Phúc. The voting system for the contest was developed by Fuad Aleskerov, a renowned mathematician, expert in game theory and decision-making, and Distinguished Professor at HSE University.
