A small negative candle was formed on the daily chart with upper and lower shadows. Technically, this pattern indicates a high wave type candle pattern which indicates high volatility in the market. On the Budget day the market reactions will be quick in response to Budget announcements. A major expectation from the Budget is a cut in personal income tax to provide relief to the middle class and boost consumption, thereby facilitating growth recovery. The extent of the tax relief remains to be seen. The fact is that there is no fiscal space for big relief. The market will be looking for growth stimulating measures; not market-related taxation reliefs like changes in the capital gains taxation. The market response to the Budget will not last more than a few days. Trends in growth and earnings recovery will dictate the medium to long-term market direction.

Share Market Live Updates | Budget 2025 Expectations | Rethinking Taxation on Share Buybacks
Share buybacks have long been a popular exit strategy for investors. Effective October 1, 2024, amendments under the Finance (No. 2) Act 2024 classify buyback proceeds as dividends, taxable as "income from other sources" for shareholders. Additionally, the acquisition cost is treated as a capital loss, which can be offset against other capital gains.
This creates an anomaly where shareholders may pay tax on amounts equivalent to their capital investment, without any actual income gain. While capital loss benefits are available, they may not always be useful. To address this, it is recommended that buyback proceeds equivalent to the capital returned be exempt from tax, with no corresponding capital loss be recorded.

“As regards markets, with fiscal policy constrained in terms of demand boost, investors’ anchoring could be more to incoming earnings, domestic monetary/liquidity situation and global developments. Investors should brace for volatility, and we maintain defensive bias in our portfolio,” Nuvama.
Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates | Budget Expectations by Nuvama
The upcoming Union Budget may target a fiscal deficit of 4.5% of GDP (down from 4.9% in FY25E), reinforcing policy credibility but leading to a pro-cyclical fiscal stance. A slower economy is expected to weigh on tax revenues (FY26E: ~10% YoY), leaving limited room for a significant spending boost (projected 5-7% YoY growth, the slowest in three years), which could exacerbate the slowdown.
Without a substantial disinvestment push, any relief measures for households (such as transfers or tax cuts) could impact public capex, which may already be peaking. With fiscal constraints in place, the RBI will likely need to play a larger role in supporting growth. However, any major monetary action may have to wait until the pressure from USD/UST drains subsides.
