darkadaptedeye User: electrotrash (743042) Name: trailerclash Location: New York Fucking City, New York, United States E-mail: modestmint @ hotmail.com About: for those who missed the boat to williamsburg......your Captains on this Ferry Ride across the East River are:Miss Minty--afterdinnermint andFifi LeFunk--nyclifeIn case of an emergency, shoulderpads and legwarmers are stowed underneath your seat and the captain will turn on the "fasten sunglasses" sign. #################################so, um... what the fuck? what the fucking fuck? should we just admit it, get out the hammer and nails, box this community up, and call it fucking dead? around the time this board was started, in 2002, things were still live on both sides of the river, down on Ludlow and over on Bedford. sure, things were tense after that clear tuesday morning when most of us stood on our rooftops and watched the towers collapse and fall... and then there were police with machine guns all over the L train platforms and military checkpoints on the Williamsburg bridge. we never knew if/when the next attack would come and something like half of us in the media/creative industry lost our jobs. winter 2001 in the city was a very dark time. i went to a loft party off the JMZ in october and nearly everyone sat leaning against the walls as they stared at the lights blinking on the dirty concrete dance floor. by spring/summer 2002, most of us probably had some form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder while just trying to pay rent and survive. but... within a matter of months Luxx went from being this empty shithole with delusions of adequacy on Grand Ave., and somehow became the center of something. somehow in the middle of a shitty economy and surrounded by guards with machine guns, we started to party like it was Berlin 1936. the weak took their trustfunds and moved to "safer" cities. but those of us who stayed... we danced and drank and smoked and fucked like the next bomb was going to drop tomorrow. and people started to create as a desperate outlet: fashion, photography, music, performances, whatever... and for awhile, it rocked. many of us moved to this city to create, and had decided that terrorists and shady landlords and mass media and a corrupt government be damned, we were going to hold out. but then, as with most things... it stabilized... things got a little too routine. unemployment checks ran out and everyone started having to scramble to get day jobs again. the next big attack never came. Fischerspooner had their egos grow to mammoth proportions yet never created anything too memorable aside from that one overplayed song. the owner of Vice magazine admitted to being a neo-conservative republican. when things started feeling "safe" again, suburban college kids with mesh caps and mass produced "ironic" t-shirts from Urban Outfitters started moving in. ...and for those of us already here, things went mod and the soundtrack became more brit for awhile. look back through this community from sometime in 2003 and through 2004, and can you hear the crickets chirping? but... and this post has no purpose without a but... and honestly, history lessons fucking suck... but... what... about... now?go look at the pictures at Last Nights Party. what about MisShapes and Bust and Hot Fucking Pink and Trash? what about any of the other nights at Happy Ending or Scenic, or anywhere else scattered throughout downtown? forget Larry Tee hype and Felix da Housecat remixes. now's there more Bloc Party, Rapture, or LCD Soundsystem and the DFA label bands mixed in with the Le Tigre and Peaches. the clubs now finally have more of a clash mixed into their electro. when no one was looking, 2005 has been picking up some steam. MommyandDaddy even finally have an album out. so, the electro-boat has finally left williamsburg and gone back across the east river to that little island known as madhattan. but the L-train still applies because the good shit likes to stay south of 14th street. New York Fucking City where the fuck are you? is there any life left in this board, or should someone just please turn off the lights here. thanks. (comment on this) |

morbs Hi everyone. In December this year I will be travelling through Europe, and I was just wondering if anyone here knew any good electro clubs in Zunich, Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Amsterdam? I'm also interested in going to some East German punk, nu-wave, no-wave, alternative/indie clubs if anyone knows any of them too.I'm a great fan of The Ghetto in London, so anything even remotely similar will greatly entertain me.Hope someone can help me out!T (2 comments | comment on this) |
