It also measures the impact of perceived employability on work engagement. Data were gathered from full-time frontline workers employed in five-star hotels in Northern Cyprus to test the study variables; the partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM) was applied and supported the research hypotheses. In line with the study predictions and findings from previous literature, perceived employability was found to have a significant positive impact on work engagement. The result revealed that, as a hindrance stressor, job insecurity negatively affects the relationship between perceived employability and work engagement. The findings of this study provide some insights concerning employability’s importance as well as influencing factors on employees’ job sele...

The festival, which is an exploration of heritage, was specifically premeditated to celebrate the slave trade period by highlighting the unique connection of African American history to the diaspora ancestors who were literally taken away as slaves through “the point of no return” in Badagry, Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was utilized as a research instrument to gather information aimed at examining the influence of social media (SM), website quality (WQ), and online word of mouth (eWOM) on tourists’ festival satisfaction (FS) and festival revisiting intention (FRI). Phenomena like turnover and service sabotage are difficult to measure and are not suitable for individual-level study. However, “intention” is suitable for individual-level or management-oriented studies. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach A new scale (eight items) to measure the intention to sabotage was developed and tested using a sample of bank (n=313) and insurance (n=258) employees in Nigeria. Cynicism and the desire for justice are the roots of sabotage. As such, the inability to stabilize institutionalized work processes and procedures may cause employees to be overcome with the intention to sabotage service, prior to the actual sabotage. Drawing on conservation of resources theory, this paper investigates the impact of employee cynicism on intention to sabotage as moderated by procedural justice. Findings The analyses suggest that employee cyni...

PLS-SEM was used to analyse the hypothesised relationships. This paper presented an integrative model to test the aforementioned effects and relationships. With the exception of the relationships between nepotism and affective commitment, all hypothesised relationships were supported. This study has developed a new conceptual model compared to past research in service management literature, which aimed to examine the impact of untried variables on quit intention in a hotel setting such as a personality trait (intrinsic motivation) to determine the rate of FLEs who are willing to work without extrinsic motivation and how much FLE jobs are attractive to trigger pressure for nepotism as an organisational climate variable that may harm organisational harmony and motivation.

There has been significant research into student mobility from developing countries to core countries, but research on student mobility between developing countries-in particular the movement from emerging economies to small island states-is scarce. North Cyprus has recently become a thriving international educational tourism destination. This study explores the factors affecting educational tourists' decision-making, with a specific focus on Nigerian students, about whom very little is known regarding their decision to study abroad and their choices of host country and host university. Data from a qualitative study carried out in the small island state of North Cyprus is used to examine the factors that push Nigerian educational tourists away from their home country to seek tertiary education opportunities elsewhere as well as the factors affecting their host country and host institution choices. Three main themes emerged from the data analysis, namely: Studying Overseas, Country Choice, and Host Institution. Congruent with the theories of relative deprivation, belongingness, and social identity, this paper is among the first to propose and empirically examine how and when favouritism leads to higher or lower turnover intention in family firms. Having utilized time-lagged data from 576 non-beneficiaries who came from 101 work groups in 48 family firms in Turkey, our findings support the following: the significance of favouritism by demonstrating that non-beneficiaries’ turnover intentions are higher in family firms when they perceive favouritism to be high; favouritism in family firms positively influences psychological contract violation; psychological contract violation acts as a mediator of the association between favour...

Design/methodology/approach Data are obtained in North Cyprus from 262 frontline employees working in four- and five-star hotels. Findings The results suggest that polychronicity refers to employees’ performance. Customer incivility negatively and significantly influences job performance, but coworker and supervisor incivilities do not. Unlike coworker incivility, both customer and supervisor incivilities moderate the relationship between polychronicity and job performance; that is, high customer and/or supervisor incivility weaken the positive relationship between polychron...
