Abdulhadi Al-Huweij, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the government appointed by the House of Representatives, and Mahamat Issa Zakaria, Secretary General of the Chadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated the building of the Consulate General of Chad in Benghazi during a ceremony attended by a number of officials from both countries and members of the consular corps in Benghazi.

During the ceremony held on Saturday, Al-Huweij and Zakaria unveiled a commemorative plaque and cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the Chadian Consulate in Benghazi, in the presence of a member of the House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee, Al-Saleheen Abdulnabi, the mayor of Benghazi, and the accredited diplomatic and consular corps, before the delegation toured the various facilities, with a large turnout from the resident Chadian community.

The Libyan and Chadian flags were raised above the consulate building

During the ceremony, Al-Huweij and the Secretary-General of the Chadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised the Libyan and Chadian flags over the consulate building, while the national anthems of both countries were played to mark the start of operations.

Zakaria praised the depth and strength of Libyan-Chadian relations, which are based on brotherhood, solidarity, and good neighborliness. He called on members of the Chadian community residing in Libya to respect Libyan national laws and regulations and to serve as exemplary ambassadors for their country, thereby reflecting the positive image of relations between the two brotherly peoples.

He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the government appointed by the House of Representatives and the General Command for the security and stability achieved, which contributed to creating the appropriate conditions for the opening of the Chadian consulate in Benghazi, expressing his country’s aspiration to expedite the opening of another consulate in Sebha to serve the interests of both countries and the Chadian community in southern Libya.

In his speech, Al-Huweij noted that the opening of the Consulate General of Chad in Benghazi is an important diplomatic step that reflects the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries. It also embodies a message of confidence in the stability the region is experiencing and reinforces Benghazi’s position as an active diplomatic and consular hub open to the African interior, in addition to facilitating services for the Chadian community and regulating their status in accordance with legal frameworks, and opening broader horizons for future partnerships that support the common interests of both countries in various fields.

Prior to the consulate’s opening, Al-Huweij held a meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Benghazi with Zakaria.

The meeting addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Libya and Chad and develop prospects for joint cooperation in various fields, particularly regarding political coordination and the implementation of agreements signed between the two countries, in a manner that serves mutual interests and contributes to supporting security and stability in the region.
