In April 2010, I restarted Wikipedia’s Big data article and wrote the early definition that framed big data as datasets too large to work with using existing database tools; that wording was widely quoted during the 2011–2012 spread of the term, and today’s Wikipedia definition still preserves that core idea in revised form.
